Colonel Edward N. Smith was a member of the Northwind Highlanders after the Fourth Succession War.[2]

History[edit]
Early Career[edit]
Smith graduated from the Northwind Military Academy after the Fourth Succession War, quickly rising in rank to captain within five years, and command of a heavy 'Mech company in the Northwind Highlanders known as Smith's Watch. Smith also served as one of the Highlanders' hand-to-hand combat instructors.
During one notable engagement, when fighting raiders from the Draconis Combine, he attempted two death from above attacks against the Combine leader's Highlander 'Mech.[2]
Word of Blake Jihad[edit]
By the time of the Word of Blake Jihad, Smith had reached the rank of colonel, and had retired from active service with the Highlanders. Located on Canopus IV when Northwind was placed under blockade by the Word of Blake, as his wife was receiving medical treatment there, he joined Stone's Coalition to fight against those who had attacked his homeworld.[1]
BattleMech[edit]
Smith was initially known to pilot a Marauder BattleMech, prior to his family LNC-01X Lancelot being returned to operational condition with assistance from NAIS in the 3030s. This family 'Mech was reputed to be one of only two surviving LNC-01X known to exist by that date.[2]
By the time of the Jihad, Smith was piloting a Xanthos.[1]
