Jarvis Clayton was a General Motors worker and, eventually, soldier for the Federated Suns.

History

Jarvis Clayton grew on Kathil, and dreamed to be a MechWarrior, but when he attempted to enlist at the AFFS, he was rejected, because he suffered a mild case of exercise-induced asthma, and was seen as a liability. However, he never ceased attempting to reenlist, always in vain. He eventually found work at the General Motors plant as line worker, occasionally driving BattleMechs during short trips.

On the New Years Day of 3000, he was tasked to move two brand newly completed Marauder BattleMechs from the main assembly line of the Kathil Plant to vehicle storage. Nearly all of the employees of General Motors have the day off in observance of the new millennium festivities. After receiving the authorization card from the senior tech on duty, Hal, Jarvis powered up the first Marauder to move it to storage with his coworker, Zhen "Zen" Quang , driving a flag truck out in front to guide him along the way.

As the Marauder was being moved, an unidentified DropShip with Capellan Confederation colors, landed on GM's ramp and deployed a lance of light 'mechs. At the same time, Hal activated a radio scrambler to prevent Jarvis and Zen from calling for help before setting out in a second truck to try and coerce Clayton in surrendering the 'mech to him. Zen and Hal get into an argument and Zen quickly realizes that a raid is in progress. He urged Jarvis to run to vehicle storage and lock himself inside to protect all of GM's Marauders that are currently in storage awaiting buyers. Zen crashed his flag truck into Hal's truck when Hal tries to shoot Jarvis in the cockpit, making him miss. Hal then shoots Zen and put his truck in front of Jarvis in the Marauder to keep him from going anywhere, banking on Jarvis' reluctance to do anything that would get himself fired. Hal also figures that Jarvis will be reluctant to shoot the Marauder's weapons due to his condition of having asthma.

But Hal had undersestimated Jarvis: faced with the decision to aid and abet a Capellan Raid, and potentially being branded a traitor, or going against company policy to potentially get fired, he decided to fight. He took the Marauder out of maintenance mode and shoot Hal's truck with both PPCs, and then engaged the Capellan light lance as they come into range. Jarvis downed an attacking Locust in his first salvo despite his asthma flaring up due to the sudden influx of heat, and later damaged a second Locust. This dissuades the raiders, which retreat back to the safety of their DropShip and depart while Jarvis calls for help for Zen as he runs the Marauder back to the assembly line. He finds that Zen still alive, but severely injured. Zhen, while was being tended by paramedics, gaves his blessing for Jarvis to date his daughter.

In the ensuing investigation, Jarvis was so sure he will be fired for his acts than began searching another job while evading journalists. At the meeting with GM's leaders, the 10 January, they revealed that Hal was a deep cover agent for House Liao who had put into the company long ago in preparation for just this day when security responses would be at a minimum. Jarvis was hailed as a hero for stopping the theft of potentially a whole company of Marauders. Clayton was thanked personally by General Motors' CEO and informed he will receive the Federated Suns Star condecoration and an assignment to get looked at by medical for his asthma before going off to basic training to become a MechWarrior for the AFFS, piloting the same Marauder he piloted on the New Year incident and that, after completion of his training, he will be scheduled to return to Kathil to be a part of GM's internal security forces.

BattleMech

Clayton's 'Mech was the so called Millenium Marauder, a brand new MAD-3R Marauder.
