PERIPHERY WAR RUMORS PERSIST[edit]

A mysterious silence continues to surround reports of combat in the Periphery kingdom of the Oberon Confederation. Hendrik Grimm Oberon II, pirate king of the Confederation, has made many enemies in his 20-year career, but none are claiming responsibility for the recent attacks.

Military analysts speculate that Redjack Ryan, ex-mercenary turned pirate, is making good on his frequent threats against Grimm and the Confederation. “Let them fight it out,” said an anonymous officer in the DC High Command. An unnamed source high in the Federated Commonwealth government said “If we’re lucky, they’ll kill each other off.”

Free Rasalhague Republic Campaign – Periphery Raid[edit]

The Free Rasalhague Republic is looking for a few skilled mercenaries to hunt down and destroy Hendrik Grimm Oberon II, the infamous pirate leader of the Oberon Confederation. The Republic has reason to believe that the Confederation is weak now, having suffered heavily in a border war against other pirate kingdoms. Mercenary units will receive 3,000,000 C-Bills for the six-month campaign. The unit should contain several ‘Mechs over 65 tons. The Republic will pay for all reasonable ammunition expenses.

I signed up today with the Free Rasalhague Republic, which is still trying to destroy Hendrik Grimm Oberon II in vengeance for his burning Last Hope to the ground last year. They almost had him, then, but he managed to escape. The pay’s pretty good, but it’ll take me right into this Periphery war that no one will talk about.

September 20, 3049[edit]

Set out for Sigurd today. The mission seems simple enough, but I keep hearing more disturbing news from the Periphery. Several pirate MechWarriors have fled back through the FRR without their ‘Mechs, and they aren’t talking to anyone. There are rumors that Redjack Ryan is already dead, and maybe Grimm, too. I could be walking into a serious war.

November 10, 3049[edit]

Arrived on Sigurd today. It’s a lifeless, soulless rock. Light gravity, dry as a cotton ball. Only a pirate could make any use of it. We detected another JumpShip in-system, but we were unable to identify it before we landed. There were no other DropShips in orbit, so I can only assume that it’s a pirate vessel, either on its way out or waiting to pick up DropShips already on Sigurd.

Mercenary Briefing – Free Rasalhague Republic[edit]

Sarah Carpenter, FRR Director of Mercenary Affairs: Somewhere near your landing area is a small airfield. Destroy the airfield and proceed to NAV BETA, where you can escape to a temporary base where you can repair and reload while on Sigurd. The precise location of the airfield is not known, but it should be near NAV ALPHA, in the vicinity of a rock formation called “Devil’s Teeth.” The Devil’s Teeth are two halves of a split mesa which resemble fangs pointed skyward.

Carpenter: This time, Grimm is not going to escape us.
