Nathaniel Carlson was an officer of the Free Worlds League.[1]

A mere commoner with no academy training, Nathaniel Carlson would fall in love and marry his noble wife much to the dismay and disgust of his new in-laws on Emris IV. A man of deep moral values and seeking to prove his worthiness to his wife's family, Nathaniel was able to secure a salvaged Griffin and struck out as a mercenary, only to constantly clash with less scrupulous commanders.[1]
Eventually blacklisted among the mercenary community for his moral inflexibility, Nathaniel Carlson eventually settled with the First Marik Protectors who actively welcomed him for his values. Despite seeing his wife infrequently until his retirement in the 3120s, Nathaniel successfully earned the respect he sought from her family, with his descendants holding title on Emris IV during the Dark Age era.[1]
