Leftenant-General Nikolai VanLee was the commanding officer of the Red Brigade during Operation REVIVAL.[1]

The Red Brigade was a renowned Opposition Force, or OpFor, that simulated tactics commonly used by the Free Worlds League and Draconis Combine. They were pitted against other Federated Commonwealth units in months-long training exercises. Nikolai VanLee would be in command of the Red Brigade during the Clan Jade Falcon invasion of the planet Trell in April 3050.[1]
For an unknown reason, the Falcons were unaware of the Red Brigades presence on Trell. That plus the fact that the Red Brigade has been in shielded positions expecting a training exercise against the 12th Donegal Guards allowed the Red Brigades to escape the initial destruction of the Clan's attack. When the Clans passed the Red Brigade in pursuit of the Second Battalion of the Donegal Guards, Nikolai Vanlee realized what was happening. He immediately began a forced march to pursue the Clan force and arrived just in time to attack the rear of the Falcon Guards just before they could capture or kill, Victor Steiner-Davion, heir to the throne of the Federated Commonwealth. As the Falcons turned to deal with VanLee's attack, Victor and his forces were able to escape into the cave system under the Castle Mountains.[1]
The following fighting was fierce and few members of the Red Brigade were able to escape, but Victor was later able to escape Trell and the Falcon's clutches thanks to VanLee's actions.[1]
The final fate of Nikolai Vanlee is unknown at this time.[1]
