Prelude[edit]

Following the War of 3039 the border between the Federated Commonwealth and Draconis Combine continued to shift in the worlds of the Dieron Prefecture the Combine had lost in the Fourth Succession War. Specifically, the Combine reclaimed the worlds of Shionoha, Kimball II, Komephoros, and Asta.[1][2] Seeking to reverse the trend, Prince Hanse Davion ordered Operation BALDUR. Named for the Norse god of purity and light, it would target the worlds of Alphecca and Skondia with the aim of eliminating the threat to Skye as both were Combine held worlds within one jump of the Province capital.[3][4][5][6]

Overview[edit]

Main Articles: Battle of Alphecca (3044), Battle of Skondia (3044)

BALDUR began in September 3044, the Eleventh Donegal Guards and Third Lyran Guards assaulted Alphecca, liberating the world in a rather one-sided campaign. At presumably the same time, the Seventeenth Donegal Guards and Fifth Lyran Guards landed on Skondia with dramatically different results that nearly saw the destruction of both AFFC units.[3][4][5][6]

It is unknown if there were additional waves planned for BALDUR, but if there were the mixed success never saw them approved.

Aftermath[edit]

Skondia may have eventually been liberated sometime prior to July 3049.[7][8] Or maybe not (see notes).

Notes[edit]

More recent sources than Lethal Heritage and 20 Year Update, namely Era Report: 3052, continue to show Skondia as a Combine world. It is unclear how these sources, particularly a novel in continuous print, can reconcile with each other.
