Patrick Duffy was one of the Clan Elders of the Northwind Highlanders.[1]

History[edit]

Duffy was an influential clan leader for more than thirty years. He helped the Highlander transition during the move from Capellan Confederation space to the Federated Suns and the return of the mercenary unit to Northwind. His policies were instrumental in restoring Castle Northwind and its surrounding infrastructure, as this created thousands of new jobs across the region and revitalized the stagnant planetary economy.

He was also one of the co-creators of the landmark Wayne-Duffy Bill which abolished the old feudal tax structure and created the current flat-tax system.

He was killed in the deadly gale that struck the coastal town of Arden. His body was found washed ashore, six kilometers from the wreck of the Misty Bay, a ten-meter caravel that Duffy owned and used frequently on his visits to his family's winter estate nearby.

His death was the fourth of prominent members of the Clan Council (two in a tragic Tara Suborbital Port accident two weeks prior to his death and a third in a climbing accident in July). Though the coroner's office officially listed the cause of death as drowning, the Arden police department indicated that the investigation was still open.[1]

Along with Simon McDonald, Henry Gordon and Fiona McBride he was a staunch opponent to the Highlanders' operations that had sent the Northwind Highlanders in contracts far from Northwind, participation in the Second Star League war against the Clans, and the unit joining the AMC.[2]

Their deaths forced all the Highlanders to come home.[2]
