Doctor Paul Bens was a Colonel of the AFFS and the commanding officer of Doc's Scorpions until his death in 2790.[1]
History[edit]
Paul served as the head of the 8th Avalon Hussars' Second Battalion before moving on to academia. His extensive, decorated field experience and doctorate in military history left him well qualified to teach, first at Albion Military Academy and then, after being found too abrasive, at Sakhara Academy. With the death of his second wife Casandra, the irritable but charismatic Paul became politically outspoken, attracting retaliation. He was soon shuffled off to lead a regional training battalion on Nouveau Toulouse, where he could be useful without being too noticeable. The battalion, with his successes, grew by 2790 into a full regiment, renamed Doc's Scorpions.[1]
On 9 November 2790, in New Light City on Nouveau Toulouse, the Scorpions fought Draconis Combine invaders to protect an evacuation effort. Paul was among the guards for the DropShip Amanda 4, and portions of the Scorpions defended other key locations. One such portion was the force led by Chic Mattson to defend the Amanda 5, which faltered under enemy fire. All civilians who were to board the Amanda 5 were lost, and Chic's ground support died covering his attempted escape. These losses angered Paul, who, under time pressure with the area about to come under nuclear bombardment, prioritized another lance for boarding the Amanda 4. Chic fired on said lance, and his fellow Scorpions fought back. This included Paul, who, caught in the fight, failed to board the Amanda 4. Both pilots would die shortly afterwards, Chic to Paul's Awesome and Paul to the Federated Suns nuclear bombardment.[1]
Description[edit]
As of 2790, Paul was fit for his age. He bore a thin white goatee, and on his chest he had a wide tattoo of a soaring crow.[1]
