Dekkerd graduated from NAIS in 3055 and was immediately assigned to the Tenth Deneb Light Cavalry. The Fireball was still going through initial trials and the practice was to assign rookie pilots to them in order to rapidly build up their operational experience while raiding into Clan territory. She steadily rose through the ranks, being promoted to Captain just prior to the Battle of New Avalon during the FedCom Civil War. Like many of those in the Tenth, she was a supporter of Katherine Steiner-Davion, though many attributed that to her uncanny resemblance to Melissa Steiner-Davion and not support for her positions or policies[1][2]
