At age of 40 in 3145

Erik Sandoval-Groell (3??? – 31??) was a member of the Swordsworn and chief adviser to his cousin, Duke Aaron Sandoval.

Character Brief

Erik Sandoval-Groell's family were residents of the Federated Suns's Draconis March, but they sent him to his Uncle Aaron, Duke of Tikonov, in the Republic of the Sphere to be educated.

With the blackout of the HPG grid in 3132 Erik was named Force Commander of his uncle's new splinter group, the Swordsworn and participated in many major campaigns.

Erik's first campaign was on Mara, where he failed to secure the world for the Swordsworn due to treason within his family when his cousin, Christine Sandoval, defeated his Centurion with her Industrial Mech. He lost both his 'Mech and his forces to Christine.

He was then sent to Achernar to secure the planet, and more importantly, the working HPG there. There he found himself caught in a three-way struggle between his few Swordsworn forces and larger forces from the Republic and the Steel Wolves. With the help of the planetary Legate (carefully appointed by Erik) he allied with the Republic forces on the planet and managed to keep his forces out of the main battles, saving them to take action against the two other factions when they are weaker. Knight Kyle Powers arrived on planet to handle the situation but Erik's forces attacked and destroyed most of a Steel Wolf supply convoy and its escorts to ratchet tensions up between the Steel Wolves and Republic forces. When the Steel Wolves' Galaxy Commander was furious for such a coward attack, Sir Powers assumed responsibility and accepted a Trial of Grievance. Republic forces led by Raul Ortega barely won the trial when Sir Powers sacrificed himself and was killed. Erik continued with his ploy of keeping his troops away from the main fighting and eventually secured the HPG with an armed contingent. This led the Republic forces to turn against the Swordsworn and the final battle for Achernar erupted with all three factions fighting each other. In the end Ortega led the Republic forces to victory, killing the Steel Wolves' Galaxy Commander and fooling everyone by having his forces plant dummy explosives to create the impression that the HPG had been destroyed. With the HPG "destroyed" Steel Wolves and Swordsworn forces left Achernar.

After those two defeats, Erik participated in a major Swordsworn victory against House Liao on the world of New Aragon, alongside elements of the Davion Guards and the Ghost Legion (elite and veteran Swordsworn regiments). Duke Aaron Sandoval left Erik in charge of mopping up the remaining hostile forces, a duty that he performed well. During this last operation, Erik was noted for successfully leading a search and destroy party of Swordsworn ’Mechs against a heavier Liao Tundra Wolf.

After learning of the failed attempt to kill his Uncle in New Canton, Erik was sent to the world of Shensi to gather their support in forming a coalition of worlds against House Liao, while Aaron Sandoval negotiated with other worlds. On Shensi Erik found a political bureaucratic nightmare that made it seem impossible to sign any agreement; unbeknownst to him, his uncle hired Liao mercenaries to carry out a surprise attack while Erik was on the planet. As a result of the attack Erik managed to get the agreement signed and left the planet to report his success to his uncle.

While Aaron Sandoval was gathering aid for his coalition from other nearby worlds, Erik was put in charge of the defense of St. Andre, an important world already under heavy attack from Capellan forces. He took command of all Swordsworn forces on the planet, but learned that the Capellan forces were vastly superior to his own and would overwhelm his army. When House Liao launched a massive attack Swordsworn forces put up a determined resistance, inflicting serious losses on the attackers, but the prolonged fight took a toll on Erik's forces; just when all hope seemed to be lost, Aaron Sandoval arrived with reinforcements from other worlds and wiped out the Capellan forces with the aid of Erik’s battered forces. Erik was recognized as having led a very good defense with the forces he had available.

After the hard-fought victory on St. Andre and upon learning of his uncle’s involvement on the Shensi attack Erik's point of view changed and he decided to make his own path in life instead of following the Duke.

Erik would later become Prince's Champion to First Prince Caleb Hasek-Sandoval-Davion in 3135.
