Austen Roderick was a Freeborn warrior of Clan Wolf and one of first-generation members of Wolf's Dragoons.[1]

History

Austen was from the planet Tranquil, became a Freeborn MechWarrior of Clan Wolf, and was recruited to join into Wolf's Dragoons expedition to the Inner Sphere. He joined Delta Regiment (Wolf's Dragoons) for three years, until the battle of New Aragon, in 3008. When his lance was decimated, and his Colonel Travis King killed, he fled, and for that was arrested and charged of desertion. The 11 April, he was put into a jail with three more arrested Dragoons, and received the visit of Delta's new leader, Major Sarah Weisz, which tell them than, in place to be executed, they will be transferred to Zeta Battalion. The unit's leader, Colonel Frank Wells gave them the welcome to his unit, to which all had volunteered. He took him to a meeting of officers, to make him see how serious was the situation in the front. Zeta was ordered to open the way to broke the Capellan lines, through a pass called El Diablo Pass, and Austen's lance, composed by him and his three cell mates, was to open the way. Despite having little time to train his new unit, Austen was sent with his lance to lead the way of Zeta, which they did. The terrain was rough, but the opposition, minimal: only a Recon lance of Waco Rangers. But the lance did all what they could to delay them igniting fires in the fores, making hit and run attacks... Wells had to call Roderick to force him to advance. Between him and another of his lance members, they catch and tore apart a Rangers' 'Mech, a Wasp, but the pilot ejected. Austen's lance accomplished his mission without losses... but one of his lance members, Barum Diaz, accidentally stepped on the Wasp pilot, which was John Waco, son of the Rangers' leader, Wayne Waco. For what he saw as his only son's murder, he and his unit swore a Death Oath, becoming the sweard enemies of the Dragoons, until they were annihilated , and caused terrible losses to the Dragoons, in the battle of First Harlech.[2]
