The Unit's original Insigna had consisted of a Budda on a Golden Disk.
Post 3061 Insigna
Insigna of Buddha on Red Disk, shunting Gold Disk so not suggest that it has unit the Chancellor's favor.[1]
History
Formation
In Service of Draconis Combine
The Shin Legion, along with its sister units had fled from the Confederation for the Draconis Combine after the Fourth Succession War, fearing Chancellor Romano Liao's purges. Seen as a foreign unit in the Draconis Combine, the 1st Legion worked hard for its new home. They frequently demonstrated a near-suicidal determination to complete their orders.
Ronin Wars
During the Ronin Wars the Kanrei sent the First Shin Legion to Kandis, which was under attack by mercenary units in the employ of the Duke of Tamar. There the First Shin Legion faced off against the Dragonslayers and Meriadoc's Marauders. Within four hours the Dragonslayers had surrendered. The Marauders refused to surrender, and the First and 2nd Shin Legion destroyed them. After that, the Shin Legions relocated to Skandia until the Draconis Combine recalled them.[2]
Clan Invasion
In late 3051 during the Clan Invasion, the unit had received Star League era BattleMechs. Which signaled to then commanding officer Tai-sa Yanyouan that they were being called to frontlines to face the Clans.
The unit was sent to Cyrenaica where they meet forces from Clan Nova Cat in February of 3052. The battle was lost at the start of engagement with the Nova Cat forces. In their fighting retreat from the planet, the Legion was able to destroy Trinary full of Nova Cat OmniMechs.
Rebuilding
The Draconis Combine High Command called the unit to Luthien where they discovered that their sister unit, the 2nd Shin Legion had been destroyed in battle for the planet. The Legion absorbed few survivors from the the unit.
The unit drafted new personnel to the unit over course of its rebuilding period. The unit's new commander, Tai-sa Nguyen, order screening of new canditates for the Legion. This was effort to perserve the unit's cultural integrity.
By 3057, Coordinator Theodore Kurita gift the unit with two companies of the Combine's latest OmniMech and other advance equipment. This left the unit indebted to their host nation[3].
However, over the years despite their dedication. The unit has not been granted permission by the Coordinator to allow them to add the emblem of Draconis Combine on their units. This request sent regularly to him up to 3061.
The Tai-sa Nguyen then received invitation from the Chancellor Sun Tzu Liao. Which invited the Legion to return to the Confederation[1]. With chance to return from exile, Nguyen accepted with endorcement of rest of the Legion. Prior to returning to Confederation, the unit gifted the old 2nd Shin Legion's DropShips to the Combine as pay its debt to the Combine for its reconstruction.
Returning to the Service of the Capellan Confederation
Upon accepting an invitation from Sun-Tzu Liao the first returned to Capellan service in 3061, renaming themselves simply as the Shin Legion. The unit when it arrived in the Confederation, the unit traded lance of its Kurita OmniMechs for lance of Men Shen Medium OmniMechs.
A flight from the 24th Luthien Light Wing defected with the Legion to the Confederation, becoming the Red Sun Flight. However, its defection with Legion caused its loyalty rating to go down Questionable. [1] By 3067 the unit had gained 2nd flight of Aerospace Fighters and mixed battalion of Battle Armor attached to its parent command.[4]

Necromo
While recovering from after effects of the fighting against House Davion's Operation Sovereign Justice on Necromo. In August 3071, the Shin Legion and the Home Guard was utterly wiped out by Word of Blake's 47th Shadow Division days before Blakist sent asteroids to plumble the planet into barren wasteland.[5]

As of 3051, the Commanding Officer was Tai-sa Chou Yanyouan[3].
As of 3059 to 3063, the Commanding Officer was Tai-sa (Later Sang-shao) Huang Nguyen[1].[3].
Tactics
The unit noted for its being able to adapt quickly to fluid situations on the Battlefield. Its members trained to handle all-terrians, specializing in open field engagements. It has noted from learning from their enemy's actions against them.
After fighting the Nova Cats on Cyrenaica, it learn to employ it assets more wisely. The Legion uses its heavy 'mechs to harass enemy's flanks, while using its Aerospace assets to strafe the enemy's rear[3]

Game Rules
Draconis Combine Force Specific Rules
When using Advance scenarios rules, the unit has been given Force Specific rules to allow it to receive +1 to its initiative when fighting on flatlands terrans. Also opposing player forces who receive loses their any bonus when facing Legion due to them being well-rounded. While in service from 3051 and to end their service with Combine, unit received C Equipment rating.[6]
Capellian Confederation Force Specific Rules
In addition to bonuses gained while in Draconis Combine. When Legion is rolled up from Random Assignment Tables, three out of four units must be rolled from Draconis Combine tables for C Rated Equipment.[7]
