Description
The Duat Military Transport is a DropShip which was originally produced in secret during the thirty-second century by a renegade faction of ComStar. The ship was created in 3131, designed as part of the renegade ComStar faction’s efforts to rebuild their organization's lost military arm, the Com Guard. The engineers designed the craft as a Combined Arms transport which was structured to carry Com Guard style formations.[2][3]
During the 3130s the Republic was devastated by numerous conflicts, which forced it to undertake a drastic effort to close itself off from the rest of the Inner Sphere. During this time, the Com Guard's existence became known to the RAF. The discovery resulted in a brief, but damaging conflict with the Republic's forces. The renegade faction and its 1st Division would soon be hunted down and destroyed. During this conflict, the Duat's presence and capacities were felt as 1st Division fought for their very existence. Republic officials would soon discover the plans for the Duat and decided to capitalize on a ship that was unknown to rest of the Inner Sphere. With the Duat's large transport capacities adapted to transport the Republic's latest weapons, including the Ares and Poseidon Superheavy BattleMechs. In an effort to buy time for the Republic to recover the RAF would use it to conduct raids outside of the Fortress's Walls.[2][3]
Weapons and Equipment
Aside from being a transport, the Duat was intended to provide fire-support for troops on the battlefield. While grounded, it can fire three Type 50 Cruise Missile launchers mounted in the craft's nose section. To aid in providing artillery support and other tasks, the Duat can deploy and control up to six Drones.[2][3]
The ship's arsenal of weapons includes an array of Gauss Rifles, Multi-Missile Launchers and Large Variable Speed Pulse Lasers found in most of its weapons arcs. Defensively, a trio of Laser Anti-Missile Systems can be found in aft and front right and left arcs. The Duat's hull is also covered by 97 tons of heavy ferro-aluminum armor, giving it a significant amount of protection from enemy fire both in space and on the ground.[2][3]
