Emblem of the Exarch

The rank of Exarch is held by the chief executive of the Republic of the Sphere and supreme commander of the Republic Armed Forces. This position is elected from within the ranks of the Paladins of the Republic[1]

History[edit]

The post and title of Exarch first came into being with the formal creation of the Republic of the Sphere after the signing of the Republic Formation Treaty between the 7th and 15th of March 3081. Devlin Stone, former head of the allied coalition against the Word of Blake during the Jihad, was the first individual to be named Exarch. As well the terms of the Treaty granted him the position for the length of his natural life, or until his voluntary retirement.[2][1]

Devlin Stone served as the first Exarch until 3130. The second Exarch, Damien Redburn, was chosen by Devlin Stone to succeed him. The third Exarch of the Republic, Jonah Levin, was elected by the Council of Paladins. His election came shortly after the assassination of Paladin Victor Ian Steiner-Davion, whose death was investigated by Jonah Levin on the orders of Exarch Redburn.

Description[edit]

The position held the approval of all legislation, in addition to the final say in all matters related to the nation. As Republic's head of state, it was served not only by the Republic Senate and the Council of Paladins, but also by a cabinet of ministers who head up the various departments and administrative areas of the government, such as the Materiel Redemption Bureau and the Citizenry Directorate.[1]
