History[edit]
Origins[edit]
House Brewer was originally a family of Terran Hegemony administrators who served as the First Lord's representatives to the Lyran Commonwealth. The family was noted for their keen economic, legal and political sensibilities, as well as their willingness to have "frank and open" discussions with the Steiners, regardless of the repercussions to Commonwealth-Hegemony relations.[1] At the beginning of the First Succession War, Archon Jennifer Steiner ordered Gerald Brewer, formerly a Baron on Coventry, to take full control of the facilities, which were previously operated jointly by the Commonwealth and the Star League. House Brewer quickly became one of the most important families in the Commonwealth thanks to the clout granted them by the massive factory complex.[2]
Succession Wars[edit]
Following the Eighth Battle of Hesperus II, Baron Ivor Brewer, who led the Force of Last Resort against Combine invaders, was raised to the rank of Duke of Hesperus II.[3]
House Brewer generally maintained a strong bond with House Steiner during this time. Duke Greydon Brewer was an honored guest at the court of Archon Katrina Steiner and his support was key to many of her military endeavors, such as the joint project with the Federated Suns to produce the Hatchetman or updating the LCAF armor corps with the Patton and Rommel tanks.[4]
Clan Invasion[edit]
While Defiance Industries prospered from massive military spending following the Clan invasion, House Brewer was at the center of a major crisis in 3057. Marshal Brandal Gareth suborned the young Duke Daniel Brewer, whose parents had died in a VTOL crash in 3051. Having mentored Daniel since he was 12, Gareth was in a perfect position to execute his plan to secede a chunk of the Federated Commonwealth centered on Hesperus II for himself to rule. Only the timely intervention of the Gray Death Legion stopped Gareth before he could entrench himself in the nearly impregnable Defiance Industries facilities. Recognizing his inexperience was the cause of this crisis, Daniel left the operation of the family business to Jacqueline Steiner-Brewer so he could join the Legion.[5]
Dark Age[edit]
In 3141, Vedet Brewer deposed Melissa Steiner as Archon and took the position for himself. He later fled Tharkad in 3143 rather than face invasion by Clans Wolf and Jade Falcon. Vedet's ambition would cost the family dearly, as by 3145 control of Defiance Industries was out of family hands entirely.[6]
