Description
The Lightray was designed by Martinson Armaments to be a heavy scout 'Mech and was put into production in 3064.[2]
Weapons and Equipment
The Lightray is built on a lightweight Geometric 33B endo steel chassis to help maximize the available weight for weapons and equipment, and features a gigantic LTV 385 XL extralight engine, the largest that can possibly be carried by a 'Mech its size. This engine allows the scout 'Mech to outpace most other medium designs with a top speed of 118 km/h, though it lacks the added maneuverability that could be provided by jump jets. The Lightray carries ten and a half tons of Strasbourg Armaments Type 4 ferro-fibrous armor, giving the 'Mech a great deal of protection.[2]
The main weapon of the Lightray is its Tronel XIII large pulse laser. A pair of Diverse Optics ER medium lasers and the Diverse Optics ER small laser add to the close-range damage the 'Mech can deal. All of these lasers are linked to a targeting computer, technology stolen from House Davion. This Word of Blake design is deadly accurate, even when moving at its top speed.[2]
Variants
- LGH-4Y
- This design was the original Lightray produced in 3064, designed before the Word of Blake ROM stole the targeting computer technology from House Davion. Instead of the computer, it used two SRM-2 packs and had one ton of ammunition. BV (1.0) = 1,067[4], BV (2.0) = 1,379[5]
- LGH-5W
- Some pilots complained about the lack of long-range weaponry on the two other Lightray variants, so the -5W simply replaces the large pulse laser with an ER PPC. BV (1.0) = 1,288[4], BV (2.0) = 1,674[6]
- LGH-6W
- A simple upgrade to the Lightray to enable it to mount the C3i computer system commonly found in Word of Blake units, the 6W is armed with an ER PPC supported by three ER medium lasers. BV (1.0) = ??, BV (2.0) = 1,554[7][8]
- LGH-7W
- This version carries an improved C3 computer, snub-nose PPC, ER medium laser, and two MML-3 launchers in the left torso. To make room for these weapons, the 7W uses an XL gyro. BV(2.0) = 1,352[9]
Design Quirks
The Lightray is subject to the following Design Quirks:[10]
Notes
- In German products, the unit's proper name was translated to Lichtstrahl. The model code was accordingly changed to LST-4W.
