History

From at least 3050 to 3054 the Ranger's three battalions were stationed on Altorra, Frondas and Fronde respectively. [1] [2]

After the collapse of the Federated Commonwealth's Sarna March into the so-called Chaos March, the Capellan-employed Rangers were transferred to reinforce the recaptured worlds of Ulan Bator and Tsingtao. [3] After the conclusion of the Capellan-St. Ives Civil War, the Confederation renewed its efforts to regain Chaos March worlds, sending the Rangers to recapture Acamar in October 3066. The unit quickly brushed aside the smaller mercenary units employed by the planetary government to defend against pirate raiders. [4]

Unfortunately the Rangers and House Liao would not be able to complete the take-over, no longer restricted by Victor and Katherine Steiner-Davion against involvement in the Chaos March after the FedCom Civil War, Duke George Hasek of the Capellan March ordered Cunningham's Commandos in to oppose them. The Commandos' veteran 1st regiment effortlessly crushed the battle-weary Rangers, who barely managed to retreat with a battalion worth of troops out of the three which originally landed. [5] To add insult to injury, the Davion mercenaries captured the unit's CO, Colonel Nicholas Olson, steadfastly refusing all attempts by the Rangers to ransom their leader back. [4]

While many observers expected Chancellor Sun-Tzu Liao to disown and release the guttered mercenary unit from Cappelan service, to the amazement of all the Rangers were assigned to guard the highly important Shengli Arms factory on Victoria. When Shengli Arms stopped its efforts to built its own independent security force, many cynics suggested the Chancellor's posting was an effort to force the debt ridden Rangers into a "Company Store" scheme to become that force. [4]

As the unit attempted to make the best of their situation under Major Timothy Rain, the Rangers loyalties fragmented between him and Captain Fiona Schtaffel, a long-time compatriot of Nicholas Olson who advocated all their efforts be directed to seeking his release. [4]

In December 3068, Sung's Rangers were stationed on Victoria when recently hired mercenary unit, Olson's Rangers turn their guns against Shengli Arms they were changed to defend. After inflicting significate damage, Sung's Rangers attempted dislodge the renegade mercenary unit to stop them. However, mercenaries manage to escape them by hijacking neary by civilian DropShip. Sung's aerospace assets, Sung's Air Raiders joined with the Victoria Home Guard's aerospace fighters attempted to stop them from escaping, but they also failed after hijacking a JumpShip.[6]

In 3068 the mercs turned on the other defending forces, secured the factories, getting all what they can transport and lifted offworld to a stolen jumpship, which transported them to a unknown system. It is believed that the Rangers were in secret employed by Duke Hasek from the Federated Suns.
