History

Formation

In 2985 Joshua Kincade defected from the Federated Suns to the Capellan Confederation due to a pay dispute. He was eagerly accepted by the CCAF and he was given command of Kincade's Rangers. Two years later they were the primary raiding force on the Federated Suns world of Aosia. During that fight the Rangers were used as a long-range raiding force, striking behind enemy lines, while other CCAF units engaged the defending AFFS forces. The Rangers captured three Corsair fighters from a rear area supply depot. These Corsairs were the first the CCAF had ever taken intact.

Many members of Kincade's Rangers went on to serve in the Death Commandos.[1] In 3025 they were stationed on Repulse.[2]

The homeworld of the unit is Tsinghai.

Fourth Succession War

During the Fourth Succession War stationed on Repulse without seeing any action.[3]

Andurien/Canopus Invasion

Then known as Kincade's Rangers, the unit was driven off Repulse, taking moderate damage. They saw additional action on Drozan, before returning to retake Repulse and Renown.[4]

Xin Sheng Campaign

Reinforced Warrior House Dai Da Chi on Tantara during the Xin Sheng Campaign.[5]

FedCom Civil War

The AeroSpace wing served alongside Hell's Black Aces as they guarded Tikonov. They engaged AFFS forces around the planet when they arrived, despite orders to the contrary. Eventually Hell's Black Aces separated the two forces, but not before Renshield's AeroSpace destroyed two squadrons of Federated Suns fighters.[6] In 3067 they were stationed on St. Andre.[7]

Jihad

During Operation: Sovereign Justice the Dragoons were seriously damaged by AFFS forces. They were driven off of Hustaing and later Hexare. These constant attacks reduced Renshield's Dragoons to about a quarter of their pre-Jihad strength.[8] The Dragoons were fighting against the 4th Illician Rangers on Hexare, one of four regiments that formed the Illician Lancers mercenary brigade. The Dragoons enjoyed greater air support than the Rangers, and despite the losses taken by the Dragoons they forced the 4th Rangers off Hexare; one of the Capellan attacks targeted and shattered the Rangers' command company, which proved a decisive blow. The 4th Rangers managed to survive because one of the surviving battalion commanders, Major "Rawhide" Francis, led the bulk of his battalion of the 4th Rangers against the Dragoons long enough to give the other elements time to retreat. The 4th Illician Rangers subsequently withdrew to Uravan.[9] The Dragoons were ordered to hold Hexare at all costs. They did so, but at a heavy cost to the unit. Though the Dragoons could have been destroyed by the 6th Syrtis Fusiliers, who had arrived to reinforce the Lancers, the failure of Sovereign Justice forced the AFFS to withdraw.[10]

Since the end of the Jihad, the Dragoons have been rebuilding on Altorra.[8]

Paget's Dragoons were stationed on Phact in 3085.[11] They became the First Liao Dragoons sometime after 3085, though they were still commanded by Shashi H. Paget as of 3145.[12]

Officers

In 3025 the commanding officer was Colonel Joshua Kincade.[1]

As of 3050 to 3054 the commanding officer was Colonel Laura Sedgwick.[13][14]

As of 3063 to 3067 the commanding officer was Sang-shao Victor Renshield.[5][15]

As of 3082 to 3085 the unit is commanded by Sang-shao Shashi H. Paget.[11]

Tactics

The Dragoons frequently tackle multiple assignments at once, dividing their forces into specialized units. The three 'Mech battalions are supported by a flight of AeroSpace Fighters and attack primary targets while the first and fourth battalions of the armor regiment strike secondary targets. The other two battalions from the armor regiment reinforce the other commands as needed.[5]
