Description
Space Marines are infantry specially trained to fight in both normal and zero-gravity environments.[1] While most ships have their own Marine contingents, the largest of these was for many years unheard-of. Working in secrecy for decades on WarShips that were unknown to the entire Inner Sphere, the Com Guard Warship Fleet Marines developed many skills in close quarter combat for fighting aboard space vessels. These skills came in handy during the Jihad, as many fleet battles often degenerated into boarding actions.[2]
Armament
The primary armament of Com Guard Marines is the Sunbeam Laser Pistol, their short range working favourably in tight quarters. For additional firepower these Marines are armed with Blazer Rifles.[2]
Other weaponry and equipment known to have been used by ComStar's marines and/or various other space based marine forces and elements (including mercenary units) throughout human space include:
- Respirator
- Filter and Humidifier Masks
- Hostile Environment Suit
- Portable Life Support Unit
- Light Environment Suit
- Marine Combat Environment Suit
- NL-42 "Battle Taxi"
- Elemental armor [space variant]) (Elemental Marines of the various clans. Often organised as Binaries, or more rarely as Stars)
- NL-45 Gunboat (small boarding craft used by the Elemental Marines of some Clans. Generally are used to convey a Point of battle armor, i.e. five battle armored Elementals, to a target ship or station, though they are also used on occasion for mixed or wholly non-Elemental marine boarding contingents)
- Aerie Power Armor (Used by some non-Elemental Marines of Clan Snow Ravan)
- G12 / G13 Tornado Light Power Armor (Blakist marines)
- Infiltrator Mk. II battle armor (Marine variant) (AFFS Navy Marines)
- Purifier Adaptive battle armor (Star Seeds mercenary company, Republic Armed Forces Marine Corps)
- Void medium battle armor [DCA variant] (Draconis Combine Admiralty Marines)
- Firedrake Support Needler (Battle Armor)
- Null-G Pack
- Engineer's Portable Console
- Combat Space Suit
- Skinsuits, such as the Asuncion Escape Suit (which reportedly has become the de facto standard issue undress uniform of the Capellan Navy[3])
- Gripper Gloves
- Armored Gloves
- Exoskeletons
- Stunstick / Mini Stunstick
- Sonic Stunner
- Medusa Whip (Known to be used by at least some non-Elemental Marines of Clan Wolf)[4]
- Needler Pistol
- Needler Rifle
- Laser Rifle / Pulse Laser Rifle
- Mauser 960 Assault System (Standard issue rifle of the old SDLF Marine Corps, also known as the Star League Marine Corps)
- Gyrojet Rifle (generally restricted to planetside or open space (EVA) usage for obvious reasons, though guided rounds do exist)
- Buccaneer Boarding Gel Gun
- Pump-Action Shotgun
- Automatic Shotgun
- Combat Shotgun
- Demolition kit
- Grenades and specialist munitions of various types. Examples include;
- Grenade Launcher / Compact Grenade Launcher
- Riot Shield
- Ballistic Plate Armor
- Flak Armor / Ablative/Flak Armor (most commonly used for planetside or stationside operations)
- Military Microcommunicator
- Field Communicator
- Advanced Field Comm Kit (usually used for planetside operations and the like)
- Long-Range Communications Kit (as above and used alongside the AFCK, albeit normally in larger scale operations)
- Bubble Tent / Personal Environment Bag
