The Spica Protectorate Militia is one of the many militias raised by Word of Blake to defend the Word of Blake Protectorate. The unit was deployed in Spica.[1] As of 3075 it was the only unit raised from this planet.[2]

History[edit]

In 3069, elements of the 41st Shadow Division augmented by elements of the 13th Division captured Spica, both masquerading as elements of the "House Liao" offensive.

The Protectorate Militia was formed by the 13th Division after they conquered Spica, the unit was assigned to protect that world.

In 3071 AMC affiliated units (the Wild Geese and the 13th Stalking Horse) were battered while attacking Spica by the Protectorate Militia Unit.[3]

The battle stopped the flow of relief materials to the Steel Forest devastated after an industrial accident there two weeks prior to the attack. The battles disrupted the relief columns for all three days, making the denizens of the forest suffer. The Spica Protectorate Militia responded to the mercenaries' landings immediately with the Light of Devotion II-epsilon arriving within two hours of the mercenaries' DropShips landing and immediately brought the mercenaries under fire. They held their ground for six hours until the rest of the Blessed Solidity-III gamma arrived and forced the mercenaries on the defensive. The Protectorate Militia forced the Wild Geese's DropShips back into the air, making it impossible for the Geese to resupply with them. The Thirteenth sought the shelter of the edges of the Steel Forest, pursued by the balance of Blessed Solidity. They managed to break contact several times, but the Planetary Militia relocated them quickly every time. By the time the rest of the Planetary Militia units had contained the mercenaries, the Stalking Horse made a fighting retreat.[1]

Devlin Stone forces conquered the planet in 3073.[4]

Composition History[edit]

Protectorate Militia Divisions were equipped with enough DropShip capacity for transportation, but not JumpShips.[5]

The named elements of the Spica Protectorate Militia were:

  • Blessed Solidity-III gamma[1]
    The Light of Devotion II-epsilon[1]

Rules[edit]

As long as a Protectorate Militia force is fighting on its homeworld and is acting as the scenario's Defender, the Protectorate Militia force receives the Force the Initiative and Off-Map Movement special abilities. If deployed as the Attacker in a scenario, the Protectorate Militia force loses its Force the Initiative ability, but retains its Off-Map Movement capability.

If deployed on a world other than its homeworld (such as an Epsilon Eridani force being deployed on Genoa), the Protectorate Militia force not only loses all of its special abilities, but also suffers a –2 Initiative modifier.

Although Blakist-based, Protectorate Militia forces may use standard Inner Sphere force arrangements (Lances, Companies, and Battalions) rather than Word of Blake force arrangements.[6]
