History
The Dioscuri are a mercenary unit that formed part of the Allied Mercenary Command. Circa 3025 their unit strength was two regiments of medium BattleMechs along with infantry support, and they were under contract to the Federated Suns. Their commanding officers at the time were Colonel Timothy Nells and Colonel Michael Nells, with the unit skill level being noted as regular. In 3050 the Dioscuri consisted of two regiments, Castor and Pollux. They were hired by the Federated Commonwealth and deployed in the Malagrotta PDZ. Castor (the first regiment) was stationed on Vackisujfalu, while Pollux (the second regiment) was assigned to garrison Great Gorge.[1]
In 3064 the mercenaries supported the Sixth Donegal Guards against the Jade Falcon Delta Galaxy on Kikuyu. The unit lost most of their equipment before they could retreat back to Morges. The fighting left only one 'Mech battalion.
In 3070 a Word of Blake signal intercepted by ROM indicated that the Blakists believed the Dioscuri to be located on Morges in the Lyran Alliance and considered the Dioscuri to be out of position to interfere with the Blakists' plans, but also indicated that the Dioscuri should be dealt with in a lethal and expedient manner if encountered.[2]
The Jade Falcon struck again in 3071 with the known Delta Galaxy. The command was during this time at regimental strength but the heavy fighting took its toll. Only two companies survived this encounter. The unit is a shadow of its former self.
Post-Jihad Era
The Dioscuri were in the employ of the Lyran Alliance at the end of the Jihad, and were stationed on Launam.[3]
Officers
The commanding officer in 3059 was Colonel Timothy Nels.
Support
The technical staff handles most of the repairs, but for transportation, the unit must count on their employers.
Tactics
The 2nd battalion acts as a scout force and harasses the enemy, before the assault elements of the 1st battalion hammer the enemies' flanks. Their conventional forces are usually deployed alongside their 'Mech forces.
