History
The Tikonov Lancers were originally formed as mechanized infantry formations for the Tikonov Grand Union. When the Grand Union merged with other political groups to form the Capellan Confederation, the Lancers were organized as the Tikonov Commonality's defense unit. The Lancers drew upon nearly five centuries of tradition and history, which gave them a sense of pride. This rigid adherence to tradition had caused some tactical problems for them however.[1]
First Succession War
By the time the First Succession War began the Tikonov Lancers had expanded to a total strength of thirteen regiments, with the founding of the Ninth through Thirteenth Tikonov Lancers.[2] Three of the regiments - the Ninth, Tenth and Eleventh Tikonov Lancers - were founded from former Star League Defense Force commands recruited by the Capellan Confederation Armed Forces. While the Ninth was based around two battalions of troops from the Seventh Jump Infantry Division and a third battalion from the 147th Mechanized Infantry Division, the Tenth was the redesignated Eighty-fourth Light Horse Regiment while the Eleventh was the former 258th Hussar Regiment.[3] The First Succession War inflicted heavy damage on the brigade, with the Second, Fourth, Fifth and Twelfth Tikonov Lancers all destroyed or rendered ineffective as combat commands, and at the end of the war only one command within the brigade could muster a total strength of more than fifty percent.[2]
