Upsilon Plant 2J was originally the main manufacturing plant controlled by Clan Fire Mandrill on the planet Shadow. The problems experienced by the Fire Mandrills with the OmniPod mechanisms on their Viper OmniMech led to them trading the design specifications for the Viper and control of Upsilon Plant 2J to Clan Ghost Bear, in exchange for several production runs of the Ghost Bear Gladiator OmniMech. Having taken control of the plant in 3002, the Ghost Bears were unwilling to keep control of a single small enclave on Shadow surrounded by warring kindraa, and chose to dismantle the plant and move it to their holdings on Strana Mechty instead. During the process of disassembling, moving and reassembling Plant 2J, the Ghost Bears developed a modular construction system that allowed them to move a number of their factories into the Inner Sphere during their subsequent exodus from the Clan Homeworlds.[1]
