Description
The Ursus II is a Clan Medium BattleMech that was jointly developed by Bergan Industries of Alshain and Arc-Royal MechWorks of Arc-Royal. Due to their unique status as being a secured producer of Clan Technology, the Ursus II was built as a means for Bergan Industries to increase influence in a very small market. The Ursus II was first produced in 3078, when early production runs went to units participating in the last phases of the liberation of Terra. The design was seen as a body guard unit, escorting larger, more vital 'Mechs.[1]
Based on the Ghost Bear's second-line Ursus, the design had some considerable changes from the original. The XL Fusion Engine was downgraded to a 200 rated engine, to help lower costs. To make up for its loss in speed, the design was fitted with Improved Jump Jets, which granted more tactical mobility. In its role as a Body Guard unit, the 'Mech employs an ECM Suite. Its hull is protected by 10.5 tons of standard armor.[1]
Weapons and Equipment
The Ursus II is a well rounded 'Mech. Its long range firepower includes an Artemis IV guided Type X Ten-Tubed Long Range Missile Launcher and a Series 7K Extended Range Large Laser. As the 'Mech closes in on its target, it can employ its close range weaponry, which includes two Kolibri Delta Series Medium Pulse Lasers, two Series 1g ER Small Lasers, and a Smartshot Mk VI Six-Tubed Streak Short-Range Missile Launcher. Both missile launchers are allotted only a single ton of ammunition, though both ammo bins are protected by CASE. To manage the 'Mech's potential heat issues, the Ursus II uses 13 Double Heat Sinks. A pilot using the 'Mech must be careful not to overload their heat sinks, having to choose which systems to employ.[1]
Variants
The Ursus II has no known variants.
Notes
- The Ursus II was originally introduced to the BattleTech universe by WizKids' MechWarrior: Dark Age collectable miniatures game.
