Description
The SRM Launcher is a Battle Armor-scale version of the popular infantry weapon. SRMs were already one of the most powerful weapons available for conventional infantry, and so following their introduction they quickly became a favorite weapon of battle suit designs.  More bulky than the portable launchers carried by infantry, the reliable SRM Launcher benefits from the advanced fire controls and stability provided by battle armor while remaining smaller per tube than vehicular launchers.

The drawback to the small size means that the SRM Launcher's ammunition is directly integrated into the launcher; should one of the tubes be damaged, missiles tied to it cannot be fed to the other tube to be launched.  The small size also means a more limited range of specialty ammunition is available - Inferno, Torpedo or Multi-Purpose Missiles - given the lack of storage space and alternative loading mechanisms, and enhanced targeting gear like Artemis IV cannot be mounted.

Overview[edit]

MekTek was a series of mods called MekPaks for MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries that added numerous new units and weapons to the game raising the total number of units from 44 to 126. The mod was available for free via the MekTek web site, but is no longer hosted on the site.

Changes[edit]

The MekTek mod did More than just add units and weapons, it also changed several preexisting items in the game. One noticeable change was the direct revamp of many of the weapons' stats and changes to the original BattleMechs' weapon layouts and aesthetics. One such example was how the Atlas' "face" was changed, along with the change in its weapon layout to include a Rocket Launcher. The paint schemes in the game were all changed (and many new ones were added), yet computer units in single player kept the same number of paint job they had had before, causing abnormal color schemes to show up on some maps (e.g. alpine camouflage on desert missions).

In an effort to equalize Inner Sphere technology with that of Clan Technology, all Clan beam weapons had noticeable heat increases, making them difficult to use. In addition, standard Inner Sphere SRMs were all given inferno qualities.
