I've created an overview article about MechForce and a rather detailed writeup about the Germany (even though I was never a member myself). But I lack information about the MFNA and MFUK, and about Quarterly (and previously, the 'Mech magazine). Since you wrote for MFQ I suppose you have some insider knowledge about the MFNA and its magazines, so perhaps if you'd kickstart these articles with whatever info you have? I still have the issues of BattleTechnology and MechForce Quarterly that I was published in except for one online-only issue of MFQ that I have an article in. So I will try to provide some additional information from those.Tekteam26 20:34, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

Welcome

Welcome, Tekteam26, to BattleTechWiki!

We look forward to your contributions and want to help you get off to a good strong start. Hopefully you will soon join the army of BattleTech Editors! If you need help formatting the pages, visit the manual of style. For general questions go to the Help section or the FAQ. If you can't find your answer there, please ask an Admin.

Additional tips
Here's some extra tips to help you get around in the wiki:

  • For policies and guidelines, see The Five Core Policies of BattleTechWiki and the BTW Policies. Another good place to check out is our market of Projects, to see how the smaller communities within BTW do things in their particular niche areas.
  • Each and every page (articles, policies, projects, images, etc.) has its very own discussion/talk page, found on the tab line at the top of the page. This is a great place to find out what the community is discussing along that subject and what previous issues have already been solved.
  • If you want to play around with your new wiki skills, the Sandbox is for you. Don't worry: you won't break anything. A great resource for printing out is the Wiki Cheat Sheet.
  • If you're not registered, then please consider doing so. At the very least, you'll have a UserPage that you own, rather than sharing one with the community.
  • Also consider writing something about yourself on your UserPage (marked as "Tekteam26" at the top of the page, though only do this if you're registered). You'll go from being a 'redshirt' to a 'blueshirt,' with the respect of a more permanent member.
    • This is really helpful for the admins, as it gives your account that touch of "humanity" that assists us in our never-ending battle with spambots.
  • For your first few edits on the wiki, please do not add any URLs (which can be an indicator of SPAM).
  • Consider introducing yourself on our Discord server.
  • In your Preferences, under the edit tab, consider checking Add pages I create to my watchlist and Add pages I edit to my watchlist, so that you can see how your efforts have affected the community. Check back on following visits by clicking on watchlist.
  • If you're bored and want to find something to do, try the Random button in the sidebar, or check out the List of Wanted Pages. Or even go to Special Pages to see what weird stuff is actually tracked by this wiki.
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~) or by clicking on the circled button in this image; this will automatically produce your name (or IP address, if you are editing anonymously) and the date.

Again, welcome to Sarna's BattleTechWiki!

Amaris Star/Royalty class

I dimly recalled TekTeam, but immediately remembered the Amaris Star. Check out this discussion over at cbt.com. (I trust you know that site - the ultimate BT forum?) Frabby 23:28, 5 January 2011 (UTC)

The Saga of the Amaris Star was actually written before even the original AeroTech rules were published. So I had to kind of fudge things a bit. The math would lean towards a primitive K-F drive for the Royalty class, but perhaps with the standard 30 LY range and the ability to have DropShip docking collars. This would give enough room for the equipment described in the original article. The Royalty class vessels were a Rim Worlds Republic design, so who knows what tech that they kludged together to make the design. Tekteam26 02:27, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
Good to know, thanks. And may I kindly repeat the suggestion that you fill in the article about yourself as a BattleTechnology author - you should find your name in the contributors section in that article (as it was credited in BattleTechnology). Frabby 08:50, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

Wiki formatting crash-course

Carriage returns

It is important to note that wikis ignore single Carriage Returns. Writing the following:
This
is
a
test
line
will only result in the text reading "This is a test line". However, writing

This

is

another

test

(i.e. using double CR to denote paragraphs) works fine. To insert a single carriage return, you need to insert <br /> into your text. There's also a "Line break" button above the text box that inserts this code.

Tabs

Your copy-and-pasted stories apparently contain a tab at the beginning of each section, which is transformed into a series of space characters when pasting (the wiki doesn't know tabs). Problem is, a space character at the beginning of any paragraph results in that odd box which doesn't even properly adjust for line breaks on the wiki. Bottom line, the tabs have to be edited out before you copy & paste.

Formatting sections and headlines

You may want to include sections and headlines in your text. Sections are created by putting their title in '==' characters, i.e. ==Sectionname==. Subsections can be created by adding one '=', i.e. ===Subsection=== or ====Sub-sub-section====.

Headlines like I am using in this text are created by placing a semicolon ';' before the headline. Check this text section in edit mode to see what I mean.

Other useful formatting stuff

Putting a word or sentence into double (not ") produces italics. Putting it into triple prints it bold, and of course five creates bold italicised text. Links to other articles are created by putting the key word into brackets, i.e. writing BattleMech creates the link to BattleMech.

A colon ':' at the beginning will indent a paragraph. We use this especially often on talk pages to differentiate replies to a previous entry, like I did up on the Amaris Star/Royalty section. First paragraph/text is without a colon, first reply with one, second with two. Makes it easier to read.

Enumerations are created by beginning each item with a '#' character:

  1. First
  2. Second
  3. Third

If you're listing items without numbering them, use an asterisk '*' istead:

  • One
  • Two
  • Three

Hope that helps. Frabby 08:50, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
