Warner Doles was a contributor to several BattleTech sourcebooks including Dawn of the Jihad and Jihad Hot Spots: 3070, and a former web moderator of a previous incarnation of the official BattleTech forums. He also coordinated the "Historical Archive Team" of voluteers who created digital copies of the original five House books — House Davion (The Federated Suns), House Kurita (The Draconis Combine), House Steiner (The Lyran Commonwealth), House Marik (The Free Worlds League), and House Liao (The Capellan Confederation)) — which were made freely available to BattleTech fans with the license holder's blessings.

Canonization[edit]

The character Warner Doles was named after Doles as the result of a charity auction to have the winner's name canonized in BattleTech fiction:

Yes sir. That would be me. And to explain, I won a charity auction to have my name or any name I wanted to be used in the novel. Then it turned into the two novels and ended up in the source book. I had no idea what was going to happen until you all did. That's the truth.[1]
