Planetary Info
Ziliang was held by the Capellan Confederation for centuries after it was settled. A very harsh world Ziliang had two industries: Mining and prisons. The ore extraction and mining facilities were run by political prisoners, who often died in the dangerous environment. The lack of education didn't help lengthen their expected lifespan.[1]
Late in the Third Succession War, the Federated Suns drove two salients into the Capellan Confederation in an attempt to take Sian. When both stalled, the AFFS High Command realized that the backwater world of Ziliang was perfectly situated to launch raids on the Confederation's interior. They swiftly assigned the First Federated Suns Armored Cavalry to Ziliang, and the First has used Ziliang as their baseworld ever since.[1] With the formation of the Kittery Prefecture during the Jihad, the Ziliang salient became even more important to AFFS operations against the Confederation.
Under the rule of the Federated Suns, the mining operations replaced their political prisoners with automated systems. This has increased production and reduced injuries. The prisons still exist, but now they house criminals from across the Capellan March. Unfortunately, the Federated government hasn't been able to significantly improve the educational system or related social problems. Only the presence of the AFFS base (and its medical facilities) prevent Ziliang from conditions comparable to an Outback world.[1]
