History[edit]

Alternate Identity[edit]

Ambrose Kelly was known to the people of the Marian Hegemony as a privateer turned MechWarrior who planned some of the Hegemony's most daring raids in the 3030s and enjoyed a close relationship with Imperator Marius O'Reilly. Rather than retire completely he joined the Collegium Bellorum Imperium as their premier lecturer on military strategy. In 3056 Julius O'Reilly enrolled at the Collegium, and was quickly recognized by Kelly as a promising student in tactics and philosophy. The two began to spend time together outside of class, and Kelly wrote glowing reports to Julius' father, Caesar Sean O'Reilly.[2][3][4]

During a 3057 lecture on military power, Kelly spoke of the dangers inherent to government when military and civilian forces are unbalanced. Upon hearing of it Caesar O'Reilly took this to be criticism of the Hegemony and ordered Kelly arrested and executed on charges of treason. Julius interceded on Kelly's behalf, arguing that no specific or treasonous criticisms were made. The Caesar offered to spare Kelly's life as a gift for Julius' upcoming seventeenth birthday, though Kelly was stripped of his rank and banished from the Hegemony. This was the beginning of a chilling relationship between the O'Reillys.[2][3][4] Years later he still maintained enough contact with his former students to stay abreast of Hegemony affairs.[1]

ComStar/Word of Blake[edit]

Unknown to the people the Hegemony, Kelly was a ROM Rho (Covert Operative) agent for first ComStar and later the Word of Blake.[1] His appearance in the Hegemony in or around the 3030s suggests ComStar had not completely given up on the Jolly Roger Plan. The relationship that developed with Julius, and even his exile, was a planned occurrence in order to complete Julius' training and sour the relationship with his father. The Word of Blake envisioned "inevitable storms" that Julius and the Hegemony would be forced to endure, but Kelly's banishment came earlier than expected. In 3064 he authored a report for Precentor VII-Mu Justin Blackford and Precentor Martial Cameron St. Jamais using his continued contacts within the Hegemony[1]
