Greta Wellington was a company commander in the Second Donegal Guards during their thousandth anniversary in 3128.

History[edit]

Early Life[edit]

Greta was a native of Coventry and a graduate of the Coventry Military Academy.[1]

Second Donegal Guards[edit]

By 3128, Greta held the rank of Hauptmann in the first battalion of the Second. She built a close friendship with the battalion's other company commanders, Greydon Brewer-Shaw and Naseem Mehyar. Greta was assigned a role setting up displayed BattleMechs for a speech commemorating the unit's anniversary, while her friends promised to save her some of the choice hors d'oeuvres on offer. Greta specifically requested two types of gourmet cheese from Furillo: Mont Vert and Ingrid's Own.[1]

After Greta's arrival, the three of them began privately mocking Hauptmann-General Fredrick Hogarth, which caught the eye of Donegal Broadcasting Company Reporter K. Madeline Schroeder. After Schroeder won their trust by promising to keep this a secret between them, Greta suggested the reporter could accompany her in the parade by riding in Greta's Gauntlet, which held a prominent place in the event. They agreed and met the next day.[1]

When Clan Jade Falcon attacked the anniversary event, Greta immediately moved to intercept, forming an ad hoc lance with her friends and a Caesar pilot. Greta was the first to visually confirm the Clan attackers and immediately moved to intercept a Cougar. She was also the first to realize that the use of Star League colors and insignia at the event, part of a the event which recognized the many banners the Second had fought under, was provoking the Clan attackers in the same way that it had during Operation BULLDOG.[1]

She and her lancemates then attempted to draw fire off of Brewer's Thunder Hawk, the only unit in the lance painted in SLDF colors. Shortly after she downed a Koshi gunning for Brewer, Greta was killed by a Thor. One of its cluster munitions struck a weak point in her canopy's armor, mortally wounding her.[1]

Political Views[edit]

Like many from Coventry, Greta was a great admirer of the Second Star League and its version of the SLDF. She reiterated that she saw them all as heroes when Brewer attempted to make light of the SLDF while he was under fire. She was also an admirer of Caesar Steiner, both for his involvement with the SLDF and how he chose to celebrate the unit's 900th anniversary. By comparison, she felt the leaders of her time, such as Leutnant-General Arnaud Zardetto did not measure up.[1]

BattleMech/Vehicle[edit]

Greta piloted a Gauntlet OmniMech. It was part of the first production run for the design.[1]
