History[edit]

Formation[edit]

The Hsien Hotheads (also occasionally referred to as Hsien's Hotheads) were formed after the fall of the Star League in 2781, The ruling Twohy family took the remains of the Hsien Planetary Guard and formed a regiment size mercenary command after the Capellan Confederation captured the planet. The long term goal of the unit is to liberate Hsien and return control back to the duke.[2] The Hsien Hotheads officially formed in 2788.[1]

Second Succession War[edit]

During the Second Succession War they were employed by the Federated Suns in the Robinson Operations Area of the Draconis March with known postings on Tallmadge in 2830 and Benet in 2864.[3]

Third Succession War[edit]

The Hsien Hotheads raided the Marik system Loongana for the Lyran Commonwealth in 3012.[4] In 3019 they were employed by the Lyran Commonwealth. When word of an assault on Hesperus II by Wolf's Dragoons reached the LCAF High Command, the Hsien Hotheads, 3rd Royal Guards, and Hansen's Roughriders were assigned to reinforce the normal garrison. These units were just barely able to stop the Dragoons' assault on Hesperus.[5][6] The Hotheads most notably employed so-called "slasher runs" and similar hit-and-run style strikes against the Dragoons, taking advantage of the heavier but less-mobile Lyran unit's "wall of steel" defense tactics which kept the Dragoons bottled up for long periods.[6]

Fourth Succession War[edit]

During the Fourth Succession War the Hsien Hotheads were hired by General of the Armies Edward Regis to join the LCAF. He led them in a strike against the Free Worlds League world Callison. The goal was not to take the world, but to disrupt the Marik Guard unit on the world.[7] Harassed by LAMs during their approach, the Hotheads suffered a few losses but were able to close with the Marik unit, most of which was trapped in its DropShips. Eventually the Guard withdrew from Callison, ceding the world to the Lyran Commonwealth while most of their supplies and parts were seized by the Hotheads.[8]

Clan Invasion[edit]

3050 found the Hotheads on Shionoha in the employ of the Federated Commonwealth.[9]

The Hotheads worked until 3053 for the LCAF and left the Commonwealth, after difficulties with the Liaison Department. The Word of Blake offered the unemployed mercenary command a contract.[2] They were shipped out to training facilities in the Periphery in 3053. There they trained Blakist forces in planetary assault tactics.[10]

FedCom Civil War[edit]

In 3061 the command landed on Gibson. The government of Hsien offered them a contract to defend the local HPG. The Hotheads landed with support of a Level III unit from the 4th Division. The opposing Montong family hired Always Faithful. Always Faithful were hunted down and killed by the Hotheads with support of the Blakists.[2][10]

Jihad[edit]

When Brenn Twohy launched a campaign to seize control of his homeworld, Hsien, in 3067, the Hotheads found themselves facing the mercenary unit Gael's Grinders. Lieutenant Fargo Hambelton, lead scout of the Hotheads' second battalion, proved instrumental in tracking down the Grinders, and since the Hotheads assumed control over the entire planet has taken a leading role in training the newly-formed Protectorate Militia.[11] By 3069 the Hotheads had joined with other local Word of Blake forces and destroyed the Always Faithful mercenary unit. This left Hsien free to join the Word of Blake Protectorate, which it did two days later.[12][10]

In 3078 they were on Hsien when Stone's Coalition attacked. They were joined by the Hsien Protectorate Militia Division in their defense of the world against the 12th Atrean Dragoons, 7th Donegal Guards, Devil's Brigade, and 12th Mechanized Cavalry Cluster of Clan Hell's Horses. The fighting became even more confusing with the arrival of the 4th McCarron's Armored Cavalry and 4th Tau Ceti Rangers, who engaged both the Coalition forces and the Hotheads. Eventually the CCAF and Coalition forces agreed to fight the Hotheads and their supporting units. The CCAF forces were unwilling to accept the Hotheads' surrender, and engaged the Coalition forces again, but were driven off-world.[13] The ultimate fate of the Hotheads isn't known.
