LLoyd McGavin was the commanding officer of the First Night Stalkers and founder of the Night Stalkers brigade as of 3020.[2]

History[edit]

Tai-sa McGavin retired from the Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery due to his age and the wounds gained from a lifetime of combat but he remained convinced that he had more fighting left in him. When McGavin requested permission to form his own unit, a bewildered DCMS granted him permission to seek donations from the Combine's business world. By 3020, McGavin had created the First and Second Night Stalkers regiments and staffed the officer corps with experienced retirees and the fighting ranks with fresh troops eager to serve in a frontline unit. The Night Stalkers quickly proved themselves a force to be reckoned with, raiding heavily into the Lyran Commonwealth while simultaneously providing vital defensive force to worlds such as Al Na'ir.[2]

Despite these successes, McGavin valued the lives of his men to the point where he twice refused orders from senior officers on the grounds that he would not sacrifice his men for plans that wouldn't succeed regardless. While McGavin felt he was immune to punishment from the Combine's government, Coordinator Takashi Kurita was distinctly displeased with McGavin's behavior and punished the Night Stalkers by moving its two regiments as far apart as possible while also having a portion of their assigned supplies routinely lost in transit.[2]

By 3025, McGavin retained command of the First Night Stalkers and was stationed on Basiliano in the Rasalhague Military District's Kirchbach Prefecture.[1]

McGavin and the First Night Stalkers were still on Basiliano when it came under attack in 3028 as part of the Lyran Commonwealth's Operation Gotterdammerung. The Twenty-fourth and Twenty-fifth Arcturan Guards, supported by the Blackhearts mercenary unit, hoped to get revenge for the Stalekrs' many raids into the Commonwealth but instead spent three weeks being outmaneuvered by McGavin's men. Only the intervention of the Arcturans' lightning companies managed to pin McGavin's Stalkers down near the city of Padua, with McGavin making the additional mistake of trying to destroy the light units instead of disengaging. Encircled by the remaining portions of the Twenty-fourth Arcturans and the Blackhearts, McGavin was forced to sacrifice an entire company of 'Mechs in order to escape the city and retreat off-world.[3]
