Mickey Rearden was a Federated Suns infantry officer and an intelligence asset for the Capellan Confederation.

On 28 November 3021, Rearden was serving as security for the Hiakru-Weller Training Facility on Hoff. Secretly, on behalf of the Maskirovka, he was attempting to assist in the Capellan theft of an 'oscillation overcompensator'. However, while on patrol and while opening the facility to a Capellan agent, Rearden was attacked by another set of infiltrators, agents of the Draconis Combine. Rearden killed one, but lost his arm to the other, only surviving due to his Capellan associate's first aid.[1]
Rearden's 1 February 3022 official AFFS report on the attack, in which he accurately identified the other infiltrators as Draconis agents, won him a promotion, a pension, and two medals: the Badge of Valor and the Robinson Medal of Valor. The pensioner continued to theoretically be a Maskirovka asset, though his handler did not continue to contact him.[1]
