Colonel Nicholas Crews commanded Gamma Regiment of Wolf's Dragoons, circa 3146.[1]

History[edit]

Dark Age Era[edit]

Nicholas Crews rose to leader of Gamma Regiment, and participated in the invasion of the Federated Suns. After the Battle of New Avalon (3146), his regiment was stationed on the planet Parma. As his regiment was a little undisciplined, the Dragoons' liaison officer, Tai-sa Reiko Akamine, a hardliner Kuritan, arrested all offending Dragoons, sometimes with fabricated charges, and refused to transfer them to the Dragoons' justice.[2]

General Thomas Brubaker, leading the Dragoons, arrived at Parma to solve the question, the 25 November 3150. In a meeting with Akamine, she refused to reach an agreement, and, in fact, after the meeting concluded, Brubaker blamed Crews for allowing his troops to be so undisciplined. Then, both received the news of the arrival of a Clan Wolf envoy.[3]

The envoy, which was Marotta Kerensky, had a surprising proposition for the Dragoons: he was there to ask them to terminate their contract with the Combine and travel to Terra to fight there for Clan Wolf against Clan Jade Falcon. He appealed to their common bonds, and to their old rivalry with the Falcons. Brubaker, though respectful and interested, refused his offer... but Crews, who had problems with the general and their Kuritan masters, was interested, and supported Marotta, saying Gamma was with him.[4]

When Crews openly supported Marotta, even suggesting to the general to send Gamma alone to Terra, Brubaker relieved him of his command, though not yet, to keep up appearances... but that only worsened the situation. Crews, before losing his command, decided to mutiny, taking command of Gamma and leaving for Terra. His subordinate Deborah Sheridan, resenting her punishment for a previous defeat, supported him fully, activating War Plan R, jamming all Dragoons comms except those which Crews wanted.[5]

The first action of Gamma Regiment was to free their captive Dragoons. Marotta had come with a full company of Wolf OmniMechs as present to the Dragoons. After freeing the captive Dragoons, Crews promoted Sheridan to captain again, and used the freed Dragoons, and others, including Marotta, to create a new company, the Black Wolves Company, under Sheridan's command.[6]

Knowing that Brubaker and his loyalists will pursue and try to stop the mutineers, Crews planned to ambush the loyalists and capture the general, using his as shield. Gamma Regiment awaited them hidden along their most probable path, in the Hatchel Site 22.[7] On 29 November, when they arrived, Crew's rebels sprung the trap. The Battle of Parma (3150) or the Second Civil War of the Dragoons, had begun. Crews led the assault, along with the Black Wolves. There were few casualties on both sides, but Brubaker's people suffered more, and the General finally admitted defeat, ordering his last fighters to surrender.[8]

After the fight ended, he participated in the negotiations with Brubaker. In exchange for agreeing to lead the Dragoons to go to Earth, the general demanded Sheridan and Crews to face justice after the battle for Terra. Both agreed.[9]

Crews participated in the Battle of Terra, leading Gamma, fighting a duel against the Falcon's SaKhan Ryan Pryde's Shrike. Crews defeated and killed Pryde, but he was also wounded and his 'Mech disabled. Pryde's death made Alpha Galaxy (Clan Jade Falcon) to fell back.[10]

The evening of 28 April, Crews, who had lost a leg, participated on the meeting with Alaric Ward on Unity City. Alaric's insulting attitude hit Crews especially hard, as he had rebelled against the Dragoons on Parma, believing Clan Wolf will accept them in their fold.[11]

IlClan Era[edit]

Crews, furious by Alaric's betrayal, was along with all others Dragoons survivors which gathered on Savannah the 3 June, where he was immediately arrested by orders of Colonel Henry Kincaid, and later hold on martial courts by his actions on Parma. Crews was sentenced to death.[12]

The 6 June, Kincaid visited him after the trial. Crews was a broken man, but questioned Brubaker's suicide, and attempted to justify his acts as necessary, but Hack didn't show him any mercy, and also didn't fall for his provocations to kill him. After informing him he will be executed by firing squad the next day, left the cell.[13]

BattleMech[edit]

Crews' 'Mech was a Tundra Wolf.[14]
