History[edit]

The Sarna Sabers brigade was one of the brigades that formed the Capellan Confederation Armed Forces during the Age of War. Associated with the Sarna Commonality - and possibly the Sarna Supremacy that predated the Sarna Commonality - the Sabers were trained via theo-political indoctrination, and in an era where combat was often bloody and every state was guilty of conducting atrocities, the Sabers became notorious for the sheer savagery of their actions. The Sabers were a particular favorite of Chancellor Kalvin Liao, who expanded the brigade and deployed them enthusiastically against his enemies... be those enemies the Free Worlds League, or dissenters amongst his own population.[1]

The last active regiment of Sarna Sabers was destroyed in 2529, during a suicidal assault on Andurien, and the Strategios didn't even pretend to consider reconstituting the brigade; instead, they elected to raise a new brigade to be associated with the Sarna Commonality, the Liao Lancers - but dictated that the Lancers would be built around time-honored military traditions.[1] Kalvin Liao was assassinated in 2530, and succeeded by his sister, Mica Liao, and then his niece, Salicia Liao;[2] Salicia referred to the Sabers as a vile lot, and once reportedly declared that had the Sabers not died during the Second Andurien War, she would have had them all executed.[1]
