Rastler was a member of either the 4th or 17th Skye Rangers[3] who was initially viewed as more lucky than skilled until his heroism against the Draconis Combine in the Fourth Succession War and War of 3039 both corrected his superiors' assessment of him, and earned a company command.[1][2]
Some time after 3039 he was assigned to a unit on the Rasalhague border, Rastler was shot down by a Clan Wolf pilot in 3051. While the site of this battle is unknown the only line units to face Clan Wolf in that year were the First Lyran Guards (Maestu), 25th Arcturan Guards (Sevren), 26th Lyran Guards (Tamar), and Fifth Davion Guards (Bessarabia). Of those only Maestu had any aerospace combat of note.[1][4]

Rastler piloted a STG-A5 Stinger LAM, noted as being in almost perfect condition.[1][2]
