Zarek Hanlon was a MechWarrior with the Red Stables mercenary unit.[1]

History[edit]

Zarek Hanlon inherited a BattleMech and decided to make career as a mercenary MechWarrior. He joined the Red Stables, a freelance unit lance strength, and sometime during or before 2865, beginning a relationship with a girl named Marnie. The 6 October, against orders, he abandoned the unit barracks at night to spend the night with Marnie. He was rudely awakened at the next day by his superior, Corporal Amanda Singh, which took him quickly to the city's spaceport. She informed him about the imminent attack of a suspected pirate attack. As the Stables worked for DuraPaq Solutions, Hanlon's superior, Captain Josef Dvorak, informed him than the unit only must protect DuraPaq's facilities, nothing more. Zarek was tasked with protecting the Stables' flank, but when a pirate Locust broke formation, attacking the nearby city, Zarek, worrying about his girlfriend and the city's inhabitants, ignored orders, pursuing the pirate. He managed to catch it before he caused too much damage, downing it, but when he turned on his radio, heard desperate calls from his mates. He quickly returned on the run, but arrived too late: the pirates had already departed, an all three Red Stables' Mechs were down, and Singh had been killed.[2]

The rest of the Stables' pilots had survived, but the captain didn't welcome Zarek, but dismissed him of the unit. After taking his belongings, Zarek found himself an outcast, permanently blacklisted from DuraPaq and any of his subsidiaries. However, he found some consolation in the fact than some locals saw him as an hero, and a DuraPaq secretary helped him to find a place where to leave his 'Mech and offered him advice to find work in another planet, for which he felt better.[3]
