History

Early History

The regiment was once part of Hasek's family private army until Five Prince Era ended with the Davion Civil War. They were re-organized with other units of Hasek's army into 5th Syrtis Fusiliers. The unit was noted for its hatred of Capellan Confederation, and the homeworld of the 5th is Lee.[citation needed]

Succession Wars

The unit like other Fusilers, became very loyal to the Hasek family. Fought with valor fighting off many raids and conducting their own thru this era.[citation needed]

However, the unit became fanatical loyal to Duke Michael Hasek-Davion during his reign from 3013-3029.[citation needed]

During the Fourth Succesion War, Michael Hasek-Davion was murdered on Sian. After his death, the unit's loyality to Federated Suns came under question. It was secretly decided to make an example of unit,as a warning to other units loyal to Michael Hasek-Davion.[1]

In May 27th, 3029 - The 5th was deployed to Sarna and by order of General Gordon Hartstone chooses to heavy burn their dropships in order to arrive ahead of their supporting mercenary units. The unit is ambushed at its dropzone by 4 regiments of McCarron's Armored Cavalry. The majority of unit is slaughtered, with less than a battalion surviving and General Hartstone's capture.[2]

During the Jihad the Fifth took massive losses as part of Operation Sovereign Justice and Operation Thunderstrike. By the end of the Jihad, barely a battalion of 'Mechs were left, and the supporting regiments weren't in better shape. The High Command re-designated the Syrtis Fusiliers units as Light Combat Teams for the forseeable future. This re-designation means that the Fifth Syrtis Fusiliers are close to full strength. The re-classification also allows the High Command to produce defensive units that aren't likely to start new conflicts before the AFFS has recovered from the previous one. They recently received a company's worth of Hauberk battle armor suits.[3]

Officers

As of 3025 the Commanding Officer was General Gordon Hartstone.[citation needed]

As of 3062 the Commanding Officer was Major General Jing-Quo Lucifer.[4]

Tactics

The RCT uses long range bombardments to pin the enemy in place for the following assault of smaller cavalry units which destroy small parts under the cover of their own comrades.

The shift from a full RCT to a LCT has forced the Fifth's commanders to create new tactics and strategies. Unfortunately they're not as proficient in these tactics as the command would like.[3]
