1st Dragoncat (Clan Nova Cat)

History

Formed on order of Khan Santin West, and appointed former Clan Cloud Cobra Star Colonel Jal Steiner to the command the unit in July 3062. The cluster was formed by selection of Steiner, from various units from across Nova Cat Tourament. Steiner selected Striker Trinary, 1st Garrison Cluster of Xi Provisional Galaxy and Assault Supernova Binary, 246th Battle Cluster of the Sigma Galaxy (Clan Nova Cat) and Battle Trinary, 37th Garrison Cluster of the Zeta Provisonal Galaxy.

The 1st Dragoncats were created as part program to cross-training Clan units with Inner Sphere tactics. The cats had initially were trained and excerised against 11th Alshain Avengers over summer & early fall months. The cats sufferen from number of defeats in early stages of the training, but soon got better. Moral among the former Homeworld warriors were low, due to their experiences during the Nova Cat Adjurement.

By 1st October, the Dragoncats had refined themselves into a fighting force, but faced new challenge. However, on eve of excerise against entire regiment of 11th, the command announced cancellation of the operation. The unit citing they received orders to deploy at the last minute. Mechwarrior Zane went to Jal Steiner notify him that his recent vision has notified them that 11th Alshain Avenger were going to illegally strike Clan Ghost Bear Dominion's capital world of Alshain. Believing the vision to be true, Star Colonel Steiner contacted Galaxy Commander Higall and notified him he was deploying his cluster on the Plain of Horses to blockcade path of the Avengers until orders of from Combine's High Command could be confirmed. In turn, Galaxy Commander informed him that he would not deploy other clusters to support him and only to defend the base. Thus making Steiner & Dragoncats only politically liable persons of Nova Cats.

The Zeta Galaxy's dropship fleet forced Avenger's dropship assets no assist in coming battle or risk mutal annilihation from one another. Only taking off when there was clear winner.

On the Plain of Horses, amist of stormy gail force winds and bitter rainy night, Avenger fire on the Dragoncats in bid to reach their dropship to meet their critcal timetable. The Avenger's Third battalion leading strikes. However, Dragoncats managed to inflict heavy on damages to incoming forces. Cat's own Charles Fighter Star of 10 fighters managed to destroy 15 battlemechs before being forced to retire due to winds, only losing three of its own.

The battle comes to brief halt, as Mechwarrior Zane challenges his former comrade Chu-sa Palmer Yoshi two duel of Zellbrigen. Yoshi offers Hegira to his former comrade, but Zane turns it down. However, a alone & crippled Blackjack fires on Zane's Pack Hunter, and decapitates it with its remaining autocannon. This breach of honor, causes the entire Zeta Galaxy to deploy against the Avengers, effecting destroying 11th Avengers.

The remaining fighting devastated the cats as fighting unit. Heavily damaged unit fought along rest of Zeta Galaxy in December when Clan Ghost Bear's Sigma & Omega Galaxies invaded Yamarovka. Star Colonel Jal Steiner had heavy wounded members for 1st Dragoncat Cluster evaucated. He had sent them to Xi Galaxy where remains of the unit was aborbed into the galaxy. Effectively disoloving the unit.

Tactics

The unit was trained to used both Clan traditional Zellbrigen and typical Inner Sphere tactics. Typically using lighter units are used in sorties wear down the enemies. Then throw Dragoncat's heavier units finish the job.
