History

The Fifth Republican Guard was formed in 3029 as part of the Tikonov Free Republic's military. The Fifth was created by taking individual soldiers formerly of the CCAF and combining them with new graduates of MechWarrior training programs.[1] In early 3030 the Fifth was assigned to take the world of Van Diemen IV, whose normal FWLM garrison had been reassigned. Unfortunately the Marik Guard unit had been replaced by four regiments of armor, and though the Fifth eventually took the world they suffered heavy losses in the process.[2]

During Operation Guerrero the Fifth was stationed on Elgin. There they were ineffective at countering the Capellan sponsored terrorists who were attacking the world. The Fifth was targeted for destruction by the nobles on the world once they found out that the Fifth's commander was a Maskirovka spy.[3]

Officers

In 3050 the 5th Republican was commanded by Leftenant General Abder-Rahman Barton.[4] General Barton was later discovered to be a Maskirovka spy.[3]
