The Barahona system was home to at least one habitable world and as at 2764 was located in the Traders Domain of the Outworlds Alliance.[1]

System Description

The Barahona system lies close to the Danli and Las Tunas systems.[2][3]

System History

The Barahona system was either colonized by the Outworlds Alliance during the Star League era or was an already-inhabited system that was incorporated into the Alliance during this era and became significant enough for Inner Sphere nations to begin recording it on maps.[2] Barahona was removed from maps at some point during the Second Succession War,[4][5] indicating that the system had become too insignificant to merit further recording.

Succession Wars

Barahona suffered from numerous pirate attacks that cost the population precious resources - parts, food and water that they couldn't afford to lose. The population appealed to the Outworlds Alliance government Alpheratz repeatedly for assistance, but after months of appeals with no response, they gave up on the government and banded together to try and mount some form of resistance against the raiders. Rejecting the Outworlds Alliance government in 2846, it was in June of that year that they had their opportunity, with the arrival of a lance of pirates calling themselves the Star League Wendigos. The Barahona Militia ambushed the Wendigos at Barahona Reservoir on the 2nd of June, with all the forces they could assemble; a five-'Mech lance of MilitiaMechs and modified IndustrialMechs, a lance of light armor and several platoons of infantry. The pirate lance of four 'Mechs - a Phoenix Hawk, a Firebee and two Stingers - were attempting to fill a couple of water transports from the already badly-depleted reservoir when the Militia launched their attack, and were caught completely by surprise at the sheer ferocity of the militia attack, and only one was able to escape back to the pirate DropShip. The surviving pirates were captured and subsequently executed, and the Militia managed to cobble together a single functional 'Mech from the salvage of the battle, which they incorporated into their forces.[14]

As of 3061 Barahona was is still inhabited, apparently as an independent world, and noted to be a popular raiding target although no attack had been successful for a decade. The world was defended by the Barahona Defense Force which did field at least one BattleMech lance as well as hovertanks and helicopters. On 15 August 3061 they fought a raiding party from nearby Sorsk to a draw.[22]

Barahona was described as a "water-rich" and (as of 3061) sparsely populated world. There were few communities, with over 90% of the population located on one continent. Pirate groups had been known to linger in the planet's wilds, but there are too few resources for them to remain there for long.[35]
