I see that you've done a lot of work cleaning up the BattleMech articles. Thank you! I hope you stick around and keep up the great work. You may want to be introduce yourself over at BattleTechWiki:New user log. If you plan to keep editing 'Mech articles, you should sign up at BattleTechWiki:Project BattleMechs. --Scaletail 18:40, 10 September 2007 (CDT)

I've also been watching your edits and am impressed. Welcome! Thanks for the hard work. Nicjansma 23:54, 10 September 2007 (CDT)

No-change editsEdit

If it wouldn't be too much trouble, when you open up the edit page, but then do not edit anything, could you hit "cancel" instead of "Save Page?" When I pull up BTW, the first thing I usually do is go to "Recent changes" and see what has been done since the last time I signed in (good for catching vandalism), and it would just make my life a lot easier if I did not have to look through all of your non-edits. Thanks! Scaletail 14:10, 25 September 2007 (CDT)

All of the changes I checked were "minor" changes (such as adding a comma after an introductory clause), but VERY hard to see (the only red on the diff page is the comma). I also check the recent changes frequently (especially to revert vandalism), so had noticed the same thing. Bdevoe 18:17, 25 September 2007 (CDT)
If that is the case, then my apologies and I withdraw my request. Scaletail 21:03, 26 September 2007 (CDT)
Kinda late to the party, but I thought I might as well add my 2 C-Bills. You actually can't make a new revision of a page if you haven't changed anything. As long as there is at least one byte of difference the new revision will be made though. --Xoid 23:16, 24 October 2007 (CDT)

Bot FlagEdit

I know you're not a bot and, frankly, the minor grammatical fixes you make are incredibly important — improving the quality of the content we already have is paramount if we're to be taken seriously and lure more Wikipedians and their ilk into making Sarna the definitive source for BattleTech related information.

However… you are a lean, mean, editin' machine. The sheer number of edits you make tends to flood Special:Recentchanges and is presumably a drain on both the bandwidth of other vigilant editors and For every edit you make I have to look at the diff. comparison and mark it as patrolled. Combine that with the fact that many of your edits are to the same page, merely different sections of it, and we're looking at least 5 page views per revision you make (You visit the page, preview, save, I view the diff. comparison, mark as patrolled). Add Scaletail, Kittle and Bedove's seemingly checking every edit and you've got a lot of page views in total. Each page is a minimum of roughly 12.0 kBs. I know from experience how this can add up incredibly quickly.

I see three solutions to this. You can…

  1. …get given the bot flag, so other editors can filter your edits from recent changes.
  2. …edit entire articles, instead of every individual section.
  3. …stop editing.

I don't want to see #3 happen at all, and I know that #2 can be difficult to remember when you've already gotten into the habit of mass-editing. It can also be murder on dial-up users and I'm unaware of what sort of connection you have to the Internet. So I'm politely requesting that consider letting yourself get tagged as a bot, despite the fact you're not, as a courtesy to other editors. --Xoid 23:16, 24 October 2007 (CDT)

Another option would be to have a separate account for DotR that is tagged as a bot for these minor edits. I think he's been doing a great job on cleaning up, but there seems to be a pretty consistent rhythm to his edits. :) I wonder if the same problems exist on all of the pages. I certainly wouldn't want to miss any of his major contributions, though, and tagging the account as a bot would do that, I believe. Just by C0.02. :) Bdevoe 13:31, 25 October 2007 (CDT)
A large number of the original BattleMech pages were by CJKeys. While he didn't have the best spelling or grammar, he knew his stuff and was dedicated. We were quite the team, he carved out a niche as an article writer, and I copyedited what he created so it could shine. There were still many, many more 'Mech articles than I could reasonably handle on my own and during my absence the backlog has seemingly increased. Scaletail's not been helping… (adding more 'Mech articles to the wiki... shame on you :P)
The major problem has been addressed (DotR decided to go with option #2), but you do raise an interesting point. The easiest way to do that, without multiple accounts, would be if DotR uses the edit summary for major changes. This'd make it easy to spot his copyediting sprees and when he's adding or significantly changing content. --Xoid 00:34, 26 October 2007 (CDT)

Glad to have you back. So many articles are now more readable! One question, though. Why are you italicizing the names of battle armor? I purposely left them unitalicized as it is only BattleMech names that receive italics (to my knowledge). TRO:3058U does not use italics for them, so I was wondering if you had seen those names italicized in another source. --Scaletail 13:01, 12 May 2008 (CDT)

Sorry about that, I assumed that the names of other machines would be italicized since the 'Mechs were... My mistake. I'll start fixing it. I think it would be a bad idea to simply revert because I know that when I edited many of them I noticed things besides missing italics.--DragonoftheRust 15:32, 12 May 2008 (CDT)

LogicBomb's thanksEdit

Please excuse my time to write this thank you. I went on "Hiatus" (in other words forgot my password) and wasn't looking at the PugCat article. In short form, thank you for fixing up the PugCat article. The poor typist himself, --LogicBomb 04:20, 31 May 2008 (CDT)

Any time. I knew it was a CustomMech article so avoided making any changes beyond correcting spelling, grammar, and punctuation. --DragonoftheRust 09:08, 18 August 2008 (CDT)

Rollback of your edit on Far CountryEdit

I have just reverted your edit that changed the words "a LAM" to "an LAM", but I feel I owe you an explanation. Your spelling would be correct if LAM was pronounced as single letters (EL A AHM), thereby starting with a vowel, but then the abbreviation would be spelled L.A.M. which is not the case. Further, I recall a discussion on the CBT boards once about how LAM should be pronounced and the conclusion was that it was pronounced as a single word (Lam). Based on this pronounciation, or alternatively expanding the abbreviation to "Land-Air-Mech", the word does not begin with a vowel and it is "a", not "an".

Hope this makes sense. Frabby 10:11, 18 September 2009 (UTC)

It is fine. Thank you for taking the time to explain the revision.--DragonoftheRust 00:17, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

DragonoftheRust, I took the liberty of installing an awards board on your main page. Please place it where it best fits your design. Happy New Year! --Revanche (talk|contribs) 05:08, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

I noticed you have been doing a lot of edits recently, have an award from me     Dark Jaguar (talk) 11:39, 11 February 2017 (EST)

Thanks, man. I really appreciate it. DragonoftheRust (talk) 14:30, 17 February 2017 (EST)

Question to ScaletailEdit

Hi, I noticed your question to Scaletail. He has not been active for quite a while. You are best directing your question to a different Admin. I'd suggest Frabby as he is generally around, but my own view would be that you do not touch anyone else's user page for any reason. Dark Jaguar (talk) 03:23, 14 May 2017 (EDT)

Common TyposEdit

I think a lot of the armor/armour and similar typos come from me - being a Brit, I have a tendency to forget to use the US standard of English on here at times, and that tends to proliferate when I'm making bulk changes using a template. You've been diligently going through fixing a lot of those, and I'd like to give you an award as thanks:   BrokenMnemonic (talk) 03:12, 15 May 2017 (EDT)

Thanks man, I really appreciate it! --DragonoftheRust (talk) 03:31, 15 May 2017 (EDT)

Cleanup workEdit

Just because I never say anything, don't think that I don't recognize and appreciate your work. I'm in fact equally happy and embarrassed about your diligent work cleaning up after me, so an award is definitely in order by now:   ;) Frabby (talk) 13:23, 15 October 2017 (EDT)

Thanks! :) --DragonoftheRust (talk) 14:40, 15 October 2017 (EDT)

British "honour", "armour"Edit

Which is the best on your idea? Just to ensure I do things correctly.--Pserratv (talk) 07:09, 5 August 2019 (EDT)

The official position here is to use American English. That means dropping the extra "U" out of words like "honour", or "armour". I hope that helps! --DragonoftheRust (talk) 14:49, 7 August 2019 (EDT)
Yes, though it runs contrary to my training (I have british english as second language), but I can adapt (or try at least).--Pserratv (talk) 04:46, 8 August 2019 (EDT)
I understand completely. As I have found out, learning a second language can be difficult, and take years to master. --DragonoftheRust (talk) 22:01, 24 August 2019 (EDT)

Spelling processEdit

As a help for those not that expert with American English, could you share the correct value to set?--Pserratv (talk) 04:08, 2 November 2020 (EST)

Sure. --DragonoftheRust (talk) 18:50, 2 November 2020 (EST)
Thanks!--Pserratv (talk) 05:07, 3 November 2020 (EST)
No problem! --DragonoftheRust (talk) 12:21, 3 November 2020 (EST)

How can I search for Neighbour?Edit

When I do search it finds 0 hits, so not sure how we can amend this spelling issue.--Pserratv (talk) 09:50, 20 November 2020 (EST)

When you search, change the selection from "Advanced" to "Everything" and it will show thousands of results in the image galleries. The problem is that the entire category, "Planetary Neighbours", is misspelled, and if the category is moved, the pages won't move with it, and have to be moved to the correct category individually. Which makes thousands of pages that all need to be done in a short amount of time, which is an immense headache for everybody involved, unless there is some wiki magic I don't understand (entirely possible). For the moment, I am going to hope somebody more knowledgeable is able to move everything over at once. For the moment, I would only worry about changing the descriptions, not the category. --DragonoftheRust (talk) 03:20, 21 November 2020 (EST)

On HiatusEdit

Due to events in my personal life, I will be taking a hiatus from the wiki. I don't know for how long, but it will not be forever. Expect me to pop in from time to time. --DragonoftheRust (talk) 00:02, 2 December 2020 (EST)
