The Bluford Gambling Association was an organization established on Bluford in the late twenty-seventh century or shortly thereafter.[1]
History[edit]
The success of Count William Reese, who made his name and fortune by entering tontines with smokers, set off a global wave of interest in gambling activities in the twenty-seventh century. There was a twenty-two year period when everyone born was entered into a tontine by the planetary government, which was referred to as a "Life Lottery." By the end of the century, backlash began when problems with the system had become evident, and a movement to ban tontines developed. It was never successful, however, as it spawned the Bluford Gambling Association counter-movement whose members protested any attempts to infringe on the rights of people to gamble with their lives.[1]
