Description
Designed as the best military cargo transports in the late Star League era, the Cargomaster was a prototype DropShip which never entered full production. Built using state-of-the-art technology, the Cargomaster sported a fully automated self-loading system, keeping the ship's crew numbers small with no additional workforce required to handle the cargo.[1]
After the Star League accepted the design, pre-production began in 2781 at the Federated-Boeing Interstellar megaplex at Galax. However, by the time the first prototype was produced in 2790, the League had fallen and the Inner Sphere was in the grips of the First Succession War. The resources and technology to build and support the massive Cargomaster had become scarce, and so the prototype and production line were scrapped.[1]
Armament
The Cargomaster was armed at each angle with one ER Large Laser and mixed supportive weaponry: 3 ER PPCs in the front, 2 Medium Lasers, 1 ER PPC, and an LRM-20 at the sides, and 2 Medium Lasers in the back. All LRM-20s were outfitted with Artemis IV Fire Control Systems and carried 132 rounds of ammunition.[1]
Cargo
Designed to replace the aging Mule, each of the Cargomaster's four self-loading bays could store as much as 2,200 tons of cargo. These interconnected bays could be isolated in case of a hull breach or similar disasters.[1]
Variants
The Cargoking, the civilan variant of the Cargomaster, was developed and produced at the same time. Both DropShips shared the same fate.[1]
Notes
- House Davion (The Federated Suns) notes Cargomaster and Cargoking as military transports still in production as of 3025.
