History[edit]

Carlos Marik was the son of former Captain-General Duncan Marik, who achieved power through the assassination of Janos Marik.[1]

That affected his career: despite the fact he barely remembered his father, by 3067 he was a Captain in the 25th Marik Militia. Despite displaying dogged determination and working diligently, he had been repeatedly passed over for further advancement, with his career stalled for his father's stigma.[1]

He took an active role in the Great Debate, siding with his cousin Alys Rousset-Marik and Thomas Marik's older sister, Therese Marik. He was considering leaving the military for politics, but neither cousin took his ambitions seriously.[1]
