Clan Cloud Cobra's identity was shaped by its first Khan, Windham Khatib, a chaplain in the Star League Defense Force and grandson of the Pope of the Church of the Crucifix. The Cloud Cobra's liberated Babylon during the Pentagon Campaign but suffered heavy losses, inhibiting their later growth.

The Cloud Cobras are remembered for their work in creating the 'Iron Womb' technology that allowed for the creation of the Clan breeding program.

The Cloud Cobras are moderate Wardens politically though they have little contact with most other Clans.

History

The Cobras are the first Clan to possess worlds beyond the Pentagon and Kerensky Cluster: They stumbled upon and soon annexed three worlds, the largest of which is called Tanis, which were colonized by the Star League. The Cobra's enlisted the aid of Clan Burrock in garrisoning the Tanite worlds.

A Cloud Cobra, Tobias Khatib, once served as ilKhan of the Clans. During his time he ordered a Cloud Cobra-Burrock task force to hunt down a Trinary of Burrock warriors who defected to the Bandit Caste. The Cloud Cobras accomplished their task, but the Burrocks lied and said they did as well. Eventually, Clan Snow Raven uncovered evidence that Tobias Khatib had dishonorably murdered his predecessor, ilKhan Corian Tchernovkov of the Coyotes some years earlier, for which Tobias Khatib was executed. The Coyotes, seeking revenge, assaulted the Cloud Cobras creating a continuing feud between them. The Coyotes inflicted heavy damage on the Cobras, but the Cobras did win territory on Brim and Homer.

The Cloud Cobra's reversals in the Pentagon Campaign and the Coyote assault left them with the smallest touman of the Clans and provides the basis for their preference with Aerospace forces. The Cobras are also known for its prolific Aerospace assets, some of the best in Clan space.

Cloisters

A defining feature of the Cloud Cobras is the creation of Cloisters, eccumenical-political units based around various religions and belief systems, each led by an ecKhan. The largest is the Josian (based on Christianity), others include the Quarani (based on Islam), Ka'an (Judaism), Tongo (Zulu), and Anasaz (Anasazi). Another Cloister is the Rossei, based on Nova Cat spiritualism. Most of its cloisters are Warden though the Quarani and Ka'an Cloisters are Crusaders. While there are similarities between Cloud Cobra Cloisters and the Fire Mandrill's Kindraa, the Cloisters do not represent a threat to the Cobra's unity, unlike the Mandrill's Kindraa. All Cloisters maintain their belief in something they call "The Way" though what that means is open to interpretation.

The Cobras held a diet on Babylon, inviting members from many prominent religions from across Clan space, as well as the Inner Sphere. The inclusion of the Inner Sphere created an uproar among the warriors of Clans Coyote, Steel Viper, Ice Hellion and Fire Mandrill, and many said individuals joined a multi-Clan task force to disrupt the diet. However, in a spirited defense of their own soil, the Cobras struck down the invading force with the assistance of Clan Diamond Shark. Due to this brilliant defense, the diet went swimmingly, and quite surprisingly, resulted in an alliance with the Blood Spirits. It is interesting to note that the Spirits are mortal enemies of the Adders, the Cobras' principle ally, and how the Cobras plan to juggle said alliance remains to be seen.

After the Babylon Diet, the Star Adders assisted the Cobras in evicting one of the clans involved in this attack, the Steel Vipers, from their enclave on Homer. The Cobras held another Diet in 3067, and this time with vastly more support from other Clans than previous.

Cloisters are known to exist outside of Clan Cloud Cobra, with the Josian presence in Clan Smoke Jaguars as an example.[1]

Allies and enemies

Their chief ally was Clan Burrock before its Absorption and is now Clan Star Adder, especially since the Adders upheld the Burrock's commitment to garrison the Tanite worlds. The Cloud Cobras also have a good relationship with Clan Diamond Shark and Clan Snow Raven. They also have more covert relationships with Clan Nova Cat and Clan Wolf-in-Exile.

The Cobras only real enemy is Clan Coyote, which still harbors a grudge against the Cobras and the Adders.

Homeworlds

Clan Cloud Cobra possess all or part of six worlds, including the three Tanite worlds. Their capital is on Homer. The other Cobra worlds are:

  • Babylon (26 percent)
  • Brim (54 percent)
  • Homer (Clan planet) (85 percent) (In wake of the Steel Vipers eviction from Homer after the Diet on Babylon, the Cloud Cobras now own Homer exclusively).
