David Ryan was the son and successor of Rudolph Ryan on the Ryan Cartel.
History
Both openly backed the Terran Liberal Party and covertly supported blockade runners in their attempts to "illegally" colonize worlds further than 120 light years away from Terra. David Ryan maintained smuggling on the side, and aided the Outer Reaches Rebels through supplies of arms and military intelligence. During the Outer Reaches Rebellion he was able to supply rebels with weapons and transport communications and officers between worlds in rebellion. Ultimately, a combination of lack of supply, poor morale, increasing numbers of rebellions, and antipathy at home ended the rebellion in autumn of 2237. More than 50 planets had successfully fought the Terran Alliance to a stalemate.[citation needed]
