The Golden Ten universities were a group of schools built in the Terran Hegemony during the 2580s and were the pinnacle of the Hegemony's education system.

History

The Golden Ten universities were elite educational institutions that enjoyed strong backing from House Cameron. These schools produced many graduates who served in the Hegemony, and later Star League, administration, civil service and diplomatic corps. Students were selected solely on merit, with scholarships making the ability to pay a non-factor and Star League treaties making them open to all regardless of nationality. Most universities had a particular focus, and all were destroyed or damaged by Stefan Amaris after his coup..[1]

Members

Universities of the Puget Sound States

A group of five schools near the Court of the Star League, including the University of Washington and Pacific Lutheran University. Three of these schools would be destroyed in the savage fighting as Aleksandr Kerensky fought to liberate Unity City from Amaris, one of which was Pacific Lutheran. Two others, including the University of Washington, survived, though much of the information in UW's computers would be erased by Kerensky before the Exodus

James McKenna University

This school was located in the Terran city of Glasgow and primarily fed new applicants into the Star League diplomatic corps. The building was first defaced by Amaris troops and later destroyed in the Liberation of Terra.

University of Mars

A Martian university focusing on journalism, its students produced influential stories that were circulated throughout the Hegemony. Amaris eradicated the school, its students and staff for refusing to publish propaganda pieces glorifying him.

University of New Earth

Possibly the oldest college outside the Sol System, the University of New Earth was focused on commercial spacecraft. The campus was divided in two, with an academic campus and an orbital station that offered hands-on work with DropShips and JumpShips. Both campuses were destroyed by Amaris.

University of Thorin

Situated on the northern continent of Thorin, this school focused on economics. Badly damaged in the fighting between the SLDF and Amaris, the school grounds were abandoned and have been reclaimed by the forest.

Caph Institute of Technology

CIT focused on the natural sciences, a good match for Caph's famous biodiversity. The university required elaborate fencing to keep away the Caph "dinosaurs," but the fall of the Terran Hegemony and the arrival of Amaris meant the end of this school. Amaris' forces stripped the university of everything they could and left it abandoned.

Academies of Keid

Actually three separate schools (the Jugens College of Metallurgy, the Deborah Cameron College of Diplomatic Studies and the Simon DeFrey College of Economics. While these schools were destroyed by Amaris, an annex for the three universities survived on the opposite side of Keid, preserving much of their knowledge for future generations.

College of Talithia

This university's close ties to the Star League's research and development programs made it a target for the Rim Worlds Republic military. What they found is unknown, but they left very little behind and the campus is now abandoned.

University of Lambrecht

The University of Lambrecht focused on sciences like astronomy and physics. The school was destroyed in the campaign to liberate the world from Amaris.

Addicks University

Addicks University was a teaching college that operated other schools, allowing student teachers to get hands-on experience while providing education to its neighbors. The campus was completely destroyed.
