Description[edit]
Commissioned as one of Anastasius Focht's last actions before retiring as Precentor Martial of ComStar, the Huscarl is the first Inner Sphere OmniFighter to see service with the Com Guards and the Free Rasalhague Republic's KungsArmé.[2]
Originally intended to be used by ComStar and the modern SLDF, the budgetary constraints forced the SLDF to withdraw, with Prince Regent Christian Månsdottir volunteering the FRR's support as a continuation of the previous partnership that started with the Beowulf BattleMech. All production runs were originally intended be shared 50/50, but the KungsArmé fielded the lion's share after Precentor Martial Pro-Tem Gavin Dow halted deployment to the Com Guards until the conclusion of the FedCom Civil War.[2] With Clan Ghost Bear already producing a number of heavy Clan-tech OmniFighters, after the Republic's merger into the Ghost Bear Dominion Janesek continued limited manufacture of the Huscarl for export to authorized buyers, with sales all but drying up after the conclusion of the Jihad.[5]
Mounting 15 tons of Orestes Cold Forge armor and an XL engine, the Huscarl is a ponderous but well armed and armored design. Though some have likened the aircraft to a flying whale, others love its massive 43 tons of available pod space, particularly when facing DropShips and WarShips. The heavy hitting, ammunition dependent nature of configurations somewhat sidesteps the mere 14 double heat sinks carried on its base chassis.[2]
Weapons and Equipment[edit]
The primary configuration mounts an LRM-10 in the nose supported by a wing-mounted ER large laser and LB 10-X AC on each side. Four tons of autocannon reloads allows the fighter to carry both standard and cluster munitions, but this configuration lacks aft weaponry.[2]
Alternate Configurations[edit]
- Alternate Configuration A
- A mixed and balanced weapon loadout, the A configuration mounts a Gauss rifle and SRM-4 in the nose, supported by an ER PPC and twin medium pulse lasers fitted in each wing. Two tons of Gauss reloads and one ton of short range missiles keep the nose weaponry in operation, while a single additional double heat sink strains to keep the heat from the wing-mounted weapons in check. BV (1.0) = 1,723[2] (1,699),[6] BV (2.0) = 2,143[7]
- Alternate Configuration B
- The B configuration features a mixture of autocannons and missiles, mounting two SRM-6 launchers and an AC/5 in the nose, supported by a single Artemis IV FCS-enhanced LRM-20 in each wing. Lacking any backup energy weaponry, this variant is forced to withdraw once its one ton of autocannon rounds, two tons of short range and four tons of long range missiles are expended. BV (1.0) = 1,582[2] (1,540),[8] BV (2.0) = 1,708[9]
- Alternate Configuration C
- A DropShip/WarShip hunter, the C configuration is built around the two mammoth UAC/20s it carries, one mounted in each wing. While it carries backup in the form of two medium pulse lasers, the fighter generally withdraws once it burns through its eight tons of autocannon reloads. BV (1.0) = 1,543,[2][10] BV (2.0) = 1,989[11]
- Alternate Configuration D
- This configuration of the Huscarl carries three medium pulse lasers and two small pulse lasers in each wing. The nose mounts a large pulse laser and three more medium pulse lasers. The aft of the fighter is protected by an ER medium laser, and all the weapons are tied into a targeting computer. 19 double heat sinks have been fitted to the craft as well. BV (2.0) = 1,748[12]
- Alternate Configuration R
- This Jihad era configuration fits Clan-built weaponry. The nose carries a Clan UAC/20, while each wing carries a Clan-built LRM-20 with Artemis IV FCS and a plasma cannon. Another plasma cannon covers the aft of the Huscarl. BV (2.0) = 2,879[13]
