Doctor Karl Olssen was a native of Verthandi, and was a leader of the rebellion against the Kuritan military occupation of his homeworld in the early thirty-first century.

Overview

Olssen came from a plantation village in the Vrieshaven District, and as a member of the Revolutionary Council he was the representative for one of the biggest and best-organized rebel forces on Verthandi. He was also descended from one of the so-called "Old Families", the original colonists of the planet, which by the thirty-first century had become the local aristocracy. Olssen's teenage son, Harriman, had also joined the rebellion as a trainee MechWarrior.[1]

In the wake of James Thorvald's ambitious - and disastrous - attempt to overthrow the Kuritan leadership in the city of Regis, Olssen joined in the recriminations and accusations at the main rebel base.[2]

When a DEST commando team raided the Fox Island facility, Karl Olssen was one of the Council members taken prisoner, along with Carlotta Helgameyer and Devic Erudin.[3] Olssen's status remained unknown until Devic Erudin, escaping the dungeons underneath Regis University, met up with Sergeant Ramage. He was being kept alive in case Governor Masayoshi Nagumo needed a few high-profile prisoners for a public execution.[4]
